if im putting the gearbox from mk2 16v onto an abf which flywheel and clutch do i use? im guessing the mk2 ones?
cheers
-
pretty sure you use the gearbox matching one, so in your case the mk2 16v clutch and flywheel.
-
Yep mk2 bits :)
As you'll no doubt see when you get the ABF lump, the flywheel & clutch setup is totally different on the cable change boxes.
-
ok, cheers guys!
what about the rad, will the mk2 one be up to the job?
-
the 16v one is a bit small, you might have to think about upgrading to an 8v item! The 16v ones are double cored though so you may be ok, but I'd upgrade to a 2 speed fan at least!
On the 'other' forums the track day guys get good results from the 8v rads. If you do go for an 8v rad you may need the hoses to go with it though! Oh and be aware that the lower rad pipe from the ABF may not work becasue the thermostat elbow is different on MK3s, but fit your old MK2 one and you should be reet. Might as well put a new stat & seal in while yr there :)
-
jonny, you really need your own mk2 garage fella
yeah will put on new stat, my rad i got now has a leak thats been radwelded so ill be buying a new one for this engine, might go for a pair of those slimline fans as well
-
if you can stretch to it look into MK2 diesel or aircon rads, bigest you'll find :)
-
what clutch would you recommend?
-
I've got a standard 16v clutch in mine, seems fine for everyday driving. If you're planning on taking it on the track or strip then it would be worthwhile getting an uprated one.
-
i wont bother with the strip but trackdays are definately on the cards
-
anyone know if the pressure plates are the same on the abf and kr ? or can the abf one be used with the kr stuff?
-
regarding the rad, the passat 2.0l 8v inj (h reg-ish) has a double fan rad that fits the mk2 with no messing about. you can find them on some of the early audi's. i just got on for mine. not fitted it yet though as keeping the wife happy by tiling the bathroom. lol
-
ill have a look for one, as long as it doesnt weigh a ton!
anyone know about the pressure plates? just thought, do they come with the clutch kit?
-
nope the ABF clutch setup is totally different, but most if not all clutch kits will come with a pressure plate. The sachs kits are good value for money as they also come with the release plate, spring and new pressure plate bolts :)
