You wouldnt even go there!
Buying an auto to many, will seem not the done thing! Over the years Ive had dozens of cars, most of them being german, and most being autos, what I would say, is dont knock it untill you've tried it...

auto VR6's have a week box a very very comman problem and scary figures to replace. auto boxes secondhand are rare too.
converting one will need a different loom and ecu for one, then linkage, box, peddle box eeek far to much work.
stick with a manual have one customer with a manual vr6's that has done over 280 thousand same engine and box still sweet as body work is now starting to let it down though as its a K plate

put a (supercharged) vr lump in the cabrio, then you get the roar and the toplessness all in one!

So say if i decided to not go down the ver healvily done vr6 route an went oold skool, on twin carbs?
anyone got any ideas on A. who the f**k would fit them, B. price sucka! C. power id get if they were on a 2.016v

I thought there were a few people who'd got 170bhp out of a 2.0 16v with cams, carbs and things.
You could always bore out a 2.0 a bit or at a turbo or swap for a G60 engine.
Or how about going for a 1.9 TDI from a Mk4 with a remap ?

You would be better off just fitting the whole setup of the 2.0 16v. Get that chipped and it'll be knocking on the door of 170bhp whilst still being reliable and not using stupid amounts of fuel.

ABF on carbs should give you 170. And Jord, Tony can do that no probs. He did a Mk2 2.0 16v on carbs.
