if u look in right place u can get brand new one for bout 160 - 170
-
if you look on the newman cams webpage i think they are a bit cheaper
-
wat performacne increase am i looking at with a camshaft ?
-
well if it dont work, you could always beat someone with it.
-
next to nothing performace wise, unless you get a vernier, P&P head, exhaust etc....
I only notice my Piper cams kicking in at about 5k revs, not usually up that high during everyday day driving (its a valver btw).
-
also note whether its for a gti with mechanical or hydraulic lifters/tappets
-
A cam by itself would give little or no power increase.. unless you thinking of spending plenty more money on other stuff, I wouldnt bother.. you would be better off finding out exactly what you want your engine to do for you, and finding the correct cam, as part of that package....

is the 8 valve golf gti a mechanical or hydraulic tappet engine ?
-
thats the 8v digifant 1989 engine sry :p
-
pps. im saving to get the head stage 4 gasflowed by grant motorsport about 650 quid, followed by a camshaft and vernier pully. Eventually followed by weber 40/45's,fuel pump, regulator. Ive already got a 4-2-1 stainless mani , jetex exhaust and its getting coilovers soon too. Much to be getting on with! I give myself about a year to year and 6 months to save up and install it.

The Newman web prices are plus VAT. Our price includes VAT.
The 268 cam is a good all round fast road cam. It WILL give good power gains when fitted in a fairly standard engine. The 272 is more focused and will give better gains when fitted into a ported and polished head along with a good manifold.
You dont realy need a veriner pulley with the Newmans as the are cut to the standard timing marks. The longer duration cams may benifit only slightly from a cam timing retard no more than 2 deg. In the real world you will be hard pushed to notice the difference.
