Hello guys, im new here, just comparing this forum to other GTI forums and the guys here seem much nicer than the other forums! Just introducing myself, im 18 I live in Gibraltar, yes i am paying alot for my insurance :embarassed: but its alright because i love my GTI! I own a Black GTI and a Clio Sport...iv had my clio since i got my licence in December and got my GTI in March i beleive and the difference is unbelievable, so much more comfortable and the car feels safer itself! Just a few queiries. Any one done any engine mods such as a Superchip? Been looking at the Blue Fin superchip but was just interested if any one has actually noticed vast gain in perfomance? I want to lower my GTI but not sure how to lol if any one has done this and could help me, id appreciate it and....Iv got the normal head unit with the 6CD changer but im interested in getting an Aftermarket Doubled Din head unit with satelite navigation etc, would any of these "mods" spoil my VW Guarantee? Here are a few pics of my two babys  P.S...Getting my windows tinted this thursday, will post pics when its done

Welcome Manu, nice to see you have now a "grown up's" Car!, enjoy the GTi,, there are previous recent threads with one of our regular Residents just lowered his Ed 30 with photo's. Revo seem to be the Best people for Remapping the Car around up to 270ish hp, but wont gain you much extra from 0 to 60, but will give you abit more Mid range grunt and before an Edition 30 owner comes in and says it, yes theirs can go to the 300hp or so mark.
-
welcome
your gti is exactly like mine. You have good taste
-
Welcome Manu,
I don't know what access you have to tuners on Gibraltar, but I would Look around to see what you have within travelling distance and get back to us all. It may be that your only option is a Bluefin Superchip, but there may be some that have better reputations locally to you.
Regarding a double din sat nav unit - I have a Kenwood DNX 7200 which is an awesome piece of kit and usefully has full European street level mapping. Yes it will invalidate your warranty on the speakers and associated wiring you have hooked up to a new system as VW's standard head units have built in controls to limit the frequencies put through the speakers at certain volumes. This is due to the cheapness of the speakers and their inability to handle full outputs to them. My suggestion would be to replace the standard speakers for a 3 way component set up in the front and coax speakers in the back as well as the head unit if you are willing to forego the VW warranty. Remember, if you go down the route of changing the speakers I would also suggest at the very least a 2 way amplifier and a 10" sub to give a full bodied sound to the system:nerd:
-
Thanx for ur replies guys! Hurdy...access to parts may not be much of a problem thanx to the internet and a wide range of "tuning" garages up the coast or rather in Spain itself. I do not want to limit myself to any parts because i know if i were to buy something there will always be something better and id rather spend it on the better than having to suffer knowing i didnt pay that extra bit of cash to have the better item, dont know if u understand me but anyways :P I am very pleased with kenwood itself as i have a singled din Kenwood KVT-627DVD and was very pleased with how it worked! I agree on uprating the speakers in the Golf. In my clio i have a full Kicker Install, and you really cant compare the compenent speakers of Kicker to the ones of the Golf. I hope to fit a new descent (nothing to heavy) system into the Golf, i want something i can enjoy without damaging my ears :P I just dont want to loose the warranty on my car as it may be rather important in the future. Thanx for your help and info, if there are any parts you could show me which are worth looking at id be rather interested. I have found this site, www.eiptuning.com and it seems rather interesting but having to order everything from America may be a bit of a hassle where as if i could order something from Germany for example may be much easier for myself. As to Maxamus, thanx for your comment, im sure you have good taste too! And Phil Mcavity...i LOVE the colour of your car, really should have considered it formyself but im just a black car guy. Yes i have spoken to a few people on other forums who have told me they have got their edition 30's to the 291 BHP mark, quite impressive! Just interested to see what i can get out of mine ;)
Hurdy, here are two pics taken from my clio, you can see the head unit in one of them and the boot install in the other, if your interested i could list up all the speakers, components etc for you :)
Thanx Guys!!

Manu GTi.
unfortunatly VW stopped making laser blue it in 2005, so they are harder to find, But there are 3 peeps on here that are regular visitors with them, its nice to be a little bit exclusive without owning an Edition 30!. On that subject, went to my usual hang out yesturday (tesco's filling station) and low and behold my 1st on the road sighting, a red Edition 30 sat behind me at the fuel pump waiting for me to drive off, ok i thought ,yours might be exclusive but i felt so much better seeing his was only a basic version and mine has the full kit of extras on it making it look just as good, and it being a Blue Car aswell which money cant buy an Edition 30 owner! Have to say though, those edition 30 wheels do grow on you the more ive seen of them.
-
Sweet install Manu,
That kicker sub must put out a few decibels  Hope you treated the boot to plenty of dynamat.
Make sure you treat the GTI to the best you can afford to do it justice.
Do you self install?
-
I dont self install no, unfortunatley im rather clumsy with my hands and wish i could be better lol. That kicker sub was crazy! Im a guy who enjoys bass and it wasnt like possible to turn it up the maximum because my ears would hurt from the vibrations! Other stuff in the car would also vibrate lol. I try to take care of my GTI to the best of my ability but there is one problem....i dont have a garage for my car (really wish i did) being 18 with a GTI and a Clio Sport i do get alot of bad looks, Gibraltar is quite a small place and every one seems to know every one. I had the tyres on my Clio slashed and some had kicked a massive dent into the car where the rear windscreen is and with the Golf, havent had it for even 3 months and they have ripped the rear wiper of it. VW charged me £40 to have it replaced :( Another thing that is disturbing is bird sh!t. I only really use my car 2 or 3 times a week as it is quite expensive to run (from my own pocket) and i always realise there is a new bird dropping on it. When i clean the sh!t off, i realise its ate away the paint, any one know any way i could get the paint back to life  Aswell Hurdy if you wouldnt mind, could you post some pics of how the golf looks with the kenwood installed? thanx
Phil Mcavity its a shame they had to stop doing laser blue :( I really would have considered it! Do you have more pics of the car in other angles? I do like the ED 30 just because it has the bumper and skirts colour coded to the car does make a big difference to the actual car itself. Personally i dont like the rims, i prefare the Monza's, at the moment iv got the 17" Monza's on mine but i do really like the 18" Monza's as they have this dark polish'ish effect hehe. I do really like these HRE Rims which i may Consider in Black, need to figure out how to lower the car first  Have a look for urself

Wouldnt that look good if only they did an edition 30 with the same as the colour coded pics!. Then i would really be sick as a P.I.G
-
Looks good mate, you must be a happy bunny! Good at photoshop i see :P IMO it looks good colour coded

Looks good mate! Was just curious, would i be able to connect that head unit to my 6 CD changer which came with that car. You probably answered my question before but i may have not understood what you said properly. I would completley loose my VW Guarantee if i were to fit that head unit wouldnt i?
-
Phil, credit where credits due mate, really good pics of the colour coded bits!
-
Yeah phil, is it done on photoshop or did you get it painted?

Unsure on whether or not you can connect your existing CD changer to the Kenwood head unit. There are specific connectors that you can buy to link aftermarket head units up to OEM changers on various cars including VW, but I haven't looked into them personally :embarassed:. Try posting on the audio section of this site.
In answer to your second question is YES. You would definitely lose your VW guarantee but ONLY on the audio parts and NOT your overall guarantee. :nerd:
-
So guarantee on the engine and stuff would still be kept? Is this in the UK only or VW World Wide??
-
The Guarantee on the engine and all other non-audio related parts would still be under guarantee as they are still in their standard condition. I don't know about worldwide, it is under my local dealer who operate under the guidelines of the Pan-European VW guarantee. If in any doubt simply go down to your dealership and they should confirm it and put your mind at ease.

erh, no found the pics of the colour coded on the interweb thingy, but seriuosly thinking about coding mine as from those pics think it would great in one colour.

Agreed! Im gonna go see a friend of mine and see how much he can sort me out! Another request! lol any one seen them ABT Front spoilers?! Im seriously after one and i am willing to place an order on one NOW. I Have been trying to get my hands on one since iv seen it. Iv checked ebay.com, check abtsportsline.de but i dont know where to look...I dont think ABT Sportsline.de deliver to europe, they dont even have the prices in pounds!
-
Er small question Manu_GTI......
How can you be 18 and afford both a GTI and Clio Sport???
However you did it I have to know your secret....
Being 16 years of age and looking for future jobs and stuff what line of work are you into?
I love the car. Black is a great colour.
Phil. I agree. the car would look geat with the skirts colour coded.

08Micsta...hehe...Im still a student and i do not work. My dad has a Supermarket in Gibraltar which is one of the main supermarkets. His only competition is Morrisons (just to compare how big the supermarket is i know its irrelevant) He has alot of like unique products which he brings from the UK and supplys all over Gibraltar and parts of spain lol. He basically has lots of money to spend and spends it on me  I hope this doesnt start no hate/jealousy as it did start on cliosport.net Insurance is quite hefty im paying £1300 a year on the Clio and £900 on the GTI. I got insured on the clio when i was 17 and i learnt in that car. I Got my GTI after i got my licence thats why its cheaper for the GTI. When the renewal date comes hopefully both prices will drop

Your ok by me
Money is simply a necessary evil to get what you want out of life (materially speaking).

Its all good

DAM......
Was hoping you had like a "How to get rich in 2 years for dummies" book for me....
Either way I cant see it happening but I might get the Ford Fiesta ST next year but I doubt it.
I dont mind people if there parents spoil them. Its when they go about acting all rich and self centred. That annoys me. But you dont seem to be like that so you cool with me.
Besides I think its a good thing your parents started you with the Clio. I know guys at my school, who just turned 18 who have Audi S3's and BMW 5 series. For a first car thats just bad. One guys rocked up here the other day in his daddies Merc AMG and put a fat scratch on the door.... Thats just stupid.
Anyhow. Swayed a bit off the topic there.

Now this is IMO so please don't take offence........but really Manu do you not get people sticking a pound up the Clio's backside and pushing the car into the supermarket for a pint of milk? What is the lower spoiler for - never mind the top one????
My Wife has a 182 and they are fantastic but no need for added ICE weight - spoils the concept - surely??
Don't get me wrong - just IMO - each to their own - and good for you to enjoy it - but please leave the Golf externals alone - PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!
On the other hand do what you want and not give a toss what i say!
-
lol, iv had them comments plenty of times. I dont like them myself! Dont like the two spoilers and dont like the rims either. Some work needs to be done with the 172 due to a little bump i had on new years, just seeing if we can get a descent garage to do it. The spoilers are going of, im looking for a spoiler of a 182 cup. Changing the suspension and rims, having the car lowered and possibly after some O.Z Ultraleggeras or them Turinis that most sports have...time will tell i guess
-
Few - i was all worried like you would hate me - ah well!
Sounds like a good plan - if your going to change the suspension it would almost be manditory to gat the Sach remote dampers from the trophy!
-
Seems like im getting more help here than on cliosport.net....by the way...any of you ever had a play around with a clio sport...like when your on the motorway/highway and you start like racing each other/ play around with each other?? Did you feel the clio could keep up or were you just laughing in your car lol
-
As i said - my wife has a 182 - fast but you need to rev it. The ed30 has a good more wollop of torque low down so its faster more of the time - no doubt about it.
-
Yeah, i agree, when i use my 172 after using my GTI i expect alot of power from like the low revs but nothing happens, then when i change gear at high revs i expect like a kick....nothing happens lol  Still a fast car thou, you just dont realise how fast your going, same thing happens with the golf

Steering this thread back on topic, Manu, for your chip tuning options, firstly, do NOT use any American originated remap, as they have completely different ECU set-up to EU market cars (they don't use the "Stratified" mode of fuel injection).
Secondly, avoid SuperSh!ts - they are NOT "official tuning partners" to VW - they merely pay to be an "official advertiser" for the racing series. There may be people who reckon the BluFin is OK, but there have been a number of reported problems here with both the product, and the aftersales service from SuperSh!ts. Instead, use a dedicated VAG tuning specialist, and one which is based in UK/Europe. Reputable VAG chip tuners include Revo, Oettinger and MTM.
A final word of caution with re-maps. If/when you take your car back to the franchised VW stealer for any servicing or warranty work, they may simply over-wright your Revo/etc remap with an updated factory VW map - so you need to ensure that whoever carries out the re-map, will also be willing to re-instate any following dealer over-wrights.

Thanx for your opinion and comments! Had my eyes set on the Bluefin but i will have a look at the other tuners, revo, oeetinger and MTM. Might find something interesting! Thanx mate
