Title: Dumb blonde in need of assistance - can't get into TDI!!??!
Post by: sugar on 18 May 2007, 21:31
PLease can anyone with a mk 4 TDI offer me advice?  I thought my battery had gone in my key fob, so i used my spare - no joy!  I had both batteries replaced at VW garage.  Still can't get into car!  The alarm is on and although i can get into the car manually I don't want to set the alarm off.

Is there anyway I can demobilise the alarm (I have a little black pen like thingy, but I'm not sure what its for)?

If all else fails i'll have to get the RAC out.  Please Help.

the little black pen thing, does it have any logo or anything on it?

is the tip similar to a ball point pen, but with a metal ring round?

is so sounds like you've got a transponder (which i didn't know the MK4 had) either way there should be a hole that you touch that into to de activate the alarm.

you should be able to find a sort of hole which you can touch that into, assuming the transponder is for that car.

Thanks for tips - ok so I am dumb ........ BUT 'Rhyso' - not that dumb - when I get into the car manually the alarm goes off and putting the key into the ignition and starting it doesn't stop the alarm!!!

I tried to get into the boot as told by a blokey that demobilisor is in boot.  can't get into boot as key (both) won't turn.  Been told by another blokey that I should try to unwire car battery as this might de-activate electrics????

Both my driver and passenger windows collapsed last year in the space of three months apart - is my car jinxed or is this a common problem?  Good job I've got my reliable SAAB to get me from A-B!

I'm off to see another blokey at VW garage in the morning to be ripped off for loads a cash coz I'm just a girly with no idea about cars.
After wards I'll tell all so that you can chuckle at my expense!

Thanks

1999 so over 6 years - anyway the saga continues - went to take the car to VW garage but battery flat as to all the times I've been setting alrm off and not driving anyware!!!  Phoned my lovely recovery man who charged the bat for me, followed me all the way to the garage (6 miles) and drove me back home.  The conclusion at VW is that transmitters in keys have gone - need new ones - are being fitted at mo and being stung for £135!!!!! - God I must love my car!!!! LOL
