Briefly:
I had a flat battery on Monday 12th Jan. Called out the RAC, who said it was not just flat, it was dead, so they fitted another one. Got in the car this morning - and it's flat again. They are coming round tonight to look at it. I don't *think* it's the alternator - I asked the RAc man to check it last time.........
BUT - why is this happening? Yes it's an old car - K reg (1993), but it's generally OK. I haven't used the car since Friday - but should that really make a difference? Is it coz it's so cold? The car's not in a garage......
Any ideas please?
Thanks
Rae

RAC are known to change batteries for no reason which cost :-\
Is there anything left on like the boot light or interiour light?
-
No lights etc left on or anything - no *obvious* reason for the flat battery at all.......
-
has the battery got a dead cell, that was the prob with mine.
-
How would I check that? The RAC man is coming out tonight - should I ask him?
-
yeh he should have the tool to do it, if not your loc, tyre exsust centre should

Wasn't there a scandal publicised a while back whereby these roadside repair people were selling batteries unnecessarily..........even to the point where they were deliberately flattening/draining batteries in order to sell one?
Be wary, yes when it gets colder, it tends to bring to your attention the state of your battery as they have to work harder, but a new one should be fine.
It could also be down to some of the previous mentioned: constant drain i.e boot light, dead cell in the new battery.........take it back, alternator not charging.
