Title: Milltek largebore down pipe
Post by: richandhazel on 18 May 2007, 10:35
Just carried out a pre-MOT check on the TDI and the forward pipe/cat has a hole where it joins the rear pipe/box.
I welded a hole near the cat last year so I think I have delayed the ineviteable for long enough.
I've found two options:-

A direct replacement: https://sslrelay.com/buypartsby.co.uk/catalytic_converters_details.php?recordID=347 (https://sslrelay.com/buypartsby.co.uk/catalytic_converters_details.php?recordID=347) that comes to £102.35 with VAT and delivery.

Or this: http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/store/product.php?xProd=6099&xSec=141 (http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/store/product.php?xProd=6099&xSec=141) I'm looking into a discount via the uk-mkiv's website.

Just wondered what thoughts were? I've already spoken to the MOT inspector I use and he says he can't fail it as long as it passes the smoke emissions.

Hi Chris,

Sounds like the best option. I assume they couple to the rest of the original system without any problems?

Thanks you both for the quick replies. MOT is just over a week away so I think I'll order one today.

Downpipe ordered

Apparently all I'll need is a reducer to connect the downpipe to the original catback system. Chris, where did you get the reducer?

i didn't mate, i have the full system. i would think any decent exhaust place could knock one up easy enough though.

I only ordered the downpipe and for some reason they don't supply the reducer with the downpipe alone.

Milltek Largebore Downpipe
The larger diameter of the downpipe reduces backpressure so close to the turbo outlet resulting in the turbo spooling up sooner and more immediate power delivery. In some applications, it can cause boost to come in around 1000rpm earlier.

Anyone got one of these on pd150?  What kind of improvement have you found?  I can't imagine it comes in 1000rpm sooner, as it'd be spinning up at idle
