OK, so without going into too much boring detail at the end of my road there's 2 lanes and traffic lights - the lights never get many through, but the right lane always moves faster than the left, so you always get people trying to push over from the left to the right lane. Normally I'm right up the guy in fronts ass, not letting any of the left hand lane fools over - but the other day a corrado started to indicate and move over just in front of me - I pretty much had to do an emergency stop to let this guy over, where as most people would've gotten the finger!
I'm also far more likely to let some one out of a side road or what ever if I happen to notice a little VW on the front, especially if it's a GTi or some thing special.
So is this something that every one here does, or am I a bit weird showing so much camaraderie so random strangers just because their car has the same badge as mine (ignoring that mines de-badged for a second!)
Also sorry if this thread has been done before - seems likely but I couldn’t' see one!
-
i'm just as bad. i always give way to other dubs and actually go out of my way to cut no slack for lexarse and X5 drivers.
-
I always acknowledge a nice looking VW, both air and water.
As for letting anything out in traffic with me it always depends on the situation.
-
always let a dub in never ever let a ford in unless a really nice classic
-
I'm quite happy to let people over and such if they're not arses and are being polite pretty much all the time
But yes, other golfs etc I will ALWAYS let out
If it's a nice mk2 I'll smile and wave too (usually just get a bit of a confused look back though)
I wish other mk2 owners would wave more lol
-
^ i always wave

i flash :smug:
-
I've only had my Golf a month (first VW) and automatically thought that id appreciate other mk2 dub owners (thats a good start)...but i too get the confused look more often than not..il keep wavin and flashing like a dohnut tho
As kittie said, im nice and let people out as and when, if they're nice, but dubs get priority
-
I let people in and will make more of an effort for a dub, probably without thinking about it, but I do also let others in and if they don't say thanks it really p1sses me off, dub or no dub.
-
^ i always wave
i flash :smug:
pervert...
I often let other Dub's through... and yeah.. not 4x4s or BMWs.. I also have "1 car" rule.. meaning i'll only let one out most of a time
-
Yes, always
Don't like letting out 4*4's or people carriers. They usually go too slow, hesitate, and you cant see through em
Not many mk2's round here to give extra repect to
edit: agree with the 1 car rule!
-
Yeah I normally do the 1 car rule too, and it pisses me off if I'm on a slip lane and people try to not let me out (I say try to 'cos I can normally bully then back! :P)
I realised that first post did may have made me sound a bit of a dick that never lets people out - that's not the case, I promise! It's kinda weird the way the roas there works and difficult to explain, normally I'm a very nice and polite driver! Just not when people try to force there way infront of me!
-
I'm the same, I wave/flash at all the modified dubs I see :D
-
Its usualy a thumbs up from me, more so for cars that are earlyer than mine like mk1,2,3, raddos, roccos and campers. But normaly i give way for a dub  unless your the chav that cut me up in his mk3 1.6 halfords special the other day...
-
Only let Dubs out I'll only have to overtake anything else if I let them out  worst one is when you let someone out and then they dawdle instantly you just think o ffs why did I do that :)
-
i pull a moonie to everyone apart from dubs!
-
waving and flashing is only allowed for old school cars  i give the occasional wee wave or nod now and again, normally it's old dears driving their mark2 they've had for 20 years, then i feel like a fag :embarassed:
-
Stopped giving way to people.
Also dodge un insured EU drivers.
-
its a strange one cos ive only had my golf a month and i have found myself giving way more to other golfs.
ive also started nodding at fellow golfs very embaressing when its some old git
and i dont know if its just me but if a boy racer in his corsa 1.2 with a big fat bolt on exhaust and some tin foil for window tint comes past me flat out at 60 i just have to pull out and fly past him with a big grin and chuckling to myself
-
i love staring at vw's so they get let out everytime.
even though im driving a pug i still wave at dubbers, i just cant get out of the habit
and it took me ages to stop nodding at bikers after years on my bike
-
I don't really do anything particularly for VW drivers. But I try to be considerate, letting people out and stuff and the 1 car rule is good but it annoys me when you let one car through and the car behind pushes it's way through as well.
When it comes to VW's I do tend to vary according to the car. I recon 60% - 70% of Mk4 and Mk5 Golf drivers aren't really dub enthusiasts and even higher for Passats as they are often company cars.
But when it comes to Mk1/Mk2/Mk3 they are much more likely to be dub enthusiasts, and the older the car the more likely it is. So I tend to be more helpful towards them. The same for old Beetles and campers.
I spose, I was raised on Dubs, (we had a Mk1 Golf, a Derby, a Mk1 Jetta and a Santana) so I guess I link dubs with good family values, but then that goes out the window when some idiot has driven his Golf through a branch of Maplins, Halfords and a plastic bin factory with is eyes closed.
-
haha i always let golfs through  if their's is better than mine then i also bow my head in respect :smug:
-
^ i always wave
i flash :smug:
Im a flasher too! was great with the angels on the mk3, used to suprise people a bit! Still give ample respect to nice vw's as thats where my heart is but the beemer gets more looks with the roof down!
-
I wave - I still cant remember how to flash in my golf and end up putting the windscreen wipers on like a fool, Or opening my delocked boot! So I gave up trying! i usually let in enyone either in a fast car or someone who looks like they would drive fast! ie NO NISSAN MICRAS OR OLD FOLK ... sorry, but there is nothing worse than getting stuck behind someone doing 25 in a 30!!!!
-

my philosophy exactly. if i think you're going to drive slower than i want to, which is about 98% of the british motoring public, then i aint letting you out.
-
NO NISSAN MICRAS OR OLD FOLK ... sorry, but there is nothing worse than getting stuck behind someone doing 25 in a 30!!!!
Lol! I was following one last night doing 35 in a 50. We approached some lights and at 200 yards out they went red - only for the micra to slow down a bit to say 20 and then carry on throught the lights. PMSL
No stopping this guy and the great thing was he force white van man into giving way. When I caught up again the driver must have been 90 and he was almost sat on the steering wheel
-
^^ Last night drving home, I was coming up a slip road so accelerated to the 70mph speed limit and pulled onto the A road behind a crappy old astra doing about 40! And there were 3 modified saxos having a "spiried drive" up the fast lane so I couldn't pull around him right away!
After a bit of swearing and breaking all was ok, and I was off after the saxos - but I'm sure these people don't realise by driving at such a low speed on such a fast and nearly empty road they're causing a major hazard.

if I am in a good mood then I will let people out, mostly if its VAG. never let Mercs, BMW or 4X4's out. or people who look like they cant drive. i.e family wagons!
I used to wave and flash at other dubs all the time but I dont bother now as i usually just get ignored or funny looks!
-
^ i always wave

If anyone sees me you must wave and flash (in a headlights sense ) I will wave back

If anyone sees me you must wave and flash their bits at me, I will wave back
being asked to flash by a lass, wicked
-
But kittie where are we likely to see you?
-
oh aye, if someone flashs (their lights) or waves then I will wave back
-
Oh I live in liverpool - which is a place apparently devoid of nice mk2s!
Only ever see a few shabby drivers etc
-
I have only had my golf for about a week but hav found myself lookin for other golfs more. The other day coming home from work I was on the by-pass and I spotted an R32 coming past me in the right lane, followed by a new Golf GTI. I quickly manouvered into the right lane to make a mini convoy.
I dont mean to be sexist so no body take it the wrong way but I always let people out if I can and have noticed that the only people who dont acknowlege of thank me are women. This really fecks me off and worries me in equal measures.
-
^^ Yeah I've noticed that women are less likey to thank me for letting them out BUT the ones that do say thinms tent to make a beigger deal out of it!
Like with a guy you get a hand raise - which is enough. But with girls I seem to get a hand raise a big smile and a mouthed "thank you" - as you pointed out though, that's on the rare occasions they bother to acknowledge at all! It really pissed me off when people don't acknowledge
I actually went though a phase of blowing kisses at girls who let me out or what ever - it normally seemed to make 'em smile, maybe I should bring that back!
-
Ive found that its the mothers on school runs etc that say thankyou (like you said) in a really appreciative manor. Its more the city centre female drivers (the ones who have a "high flying" job) that are the d1cks.
-
^ there is nothing more likely to get me waving my fist and cursing than when some f**ker just takes it for granted that you were going to let them out, or doesn't give you a smile or nod of thanks for your trouble.
-
me n the missus are always like wow look at that bug or gti or oh thats a nice rado, and we always let dubs pull out if its a nice one! apart from that other cars can find there own way out ;)
