forst, replace your gear linkage bushes, you can get a kit on ebay!http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2459207576&category=9889

If than it do't work, it cold be the sycromesh, i'm told this is a common problem, than its a case of repair or replace, there is one on ebay!

A recon box will be a few hundred, a couple of hundred labour.
So i guess you could get it done for about 500 bar  :)

Could just be the linkage needs adjusting.

try selecting reverse under the car with a pair of mole grips on the selector shaft

If you get another box, rich will buy your old one for the case ;D ;).
Bet it is the linkage, as rich the gearbox expert said ;).

Yeah I'll have your old one........I'm busy collecting them as Steve has noticed ;D

Following on from what modulator said, better still, disconnect your linkages at the box........its dead easy, one wire clip and 2 plastic clips. Now move the gearbox selector lever into reverse on the gearbox itself. As you look at it I'm pretty sure (although I may be wrong and its 1am so I don't intend to go out and verify) its pull towards you and then right.........you should hear that distinctive reverse gear sound as it engages. Try it a few times..........nice and positive? Then its your linkage out of adjustment.......if not see me.......reverse gear should be a piece of p!ss to fix and I have plenty of spares.
