will an mk2 8v 1.8 gti go straight into my mk1? sorry i am a newbie!!! many thanks
-
It should do yes, but there will be stuff to do that someone more technical than me may be able to answer as the mk2 8v is a digifant engine so has an ECU, but the mk1 is a k-jet engine (mechanical fuel injection), but why do that ? If you're doing a mk2 engine then you may as well go for the 16v and the 16v was also a k-jet.

yeah..got one in the cab
Dinx

If you use the mk1 head onto the mk2 bottom end its a simple job. I used the mk1 head with a 2l tall block bottom end from a mk3 and my mk1 goes really well.
Hits 60 in about 7secs and ran a 14.74 quarter at santa pod.
I have since put a fast road cam in so not sure on the numbers now.

Not all mk2s actually have a ECU, some of the older ones use exactly the same engine as the last of the mk1s, so yes they can just be a straight swap......
-
basically, swap anything thats different from the old engine onto your new one, job done :)
Only thing that isn't immediatly obvious is the injector inserts, if the engine is a digifant one they'll be different, but all you have to do is unscrew them with a suitably sized allen key and swap em over from your old head. I'd replace the injector seals while you're there :)

sounds like one of the easiest conversions about
