Title: Question!
Post by: gazzagtiT on 08 February 2004, 14:59
Does anybody no what this is for!
On the mk4 of cours, under the heater controls or climate if you have it, there's a panel, that annoyingly comes off when i go over a pump when going fast.anyway, behind the panel is a lil pink plug, similar to a scart plug but not quite

What the hell is it for? ???

Thats the Vagcom port mate.

The trim over the port is really badly secured, you only need to brush  mine and it falls off.

Its the diagnostic port that VW plug into to adjust/check settings.

You can buy the lead and the VAGCOM software yourself (check out ebay) hook it up to your laptop, and fiddle with settings and stuff yourself, which a lot of the Mk4 boys have done.

I'm not entirely sure to be honest, I know stuff like the alarm can be fiddled with - you can enable stuff like like anti-hijack, that sort of thing.

Not sure what else you can do to be honest ???

Any Mk4 owners who have it, what sort of things can you do??

Try the following sites, which will tell you all you need about VAGCOM:

http://www.ross-tech.com  and http://www.vag-com.co.uk

Ross Tech do a shareware download which is FREE! You will just need to buy a lead which is currently available for ?43 on the UKMKIVS site under Group Buys:

http://www.uk-mkivs.net/forum/default.asp  (Just scroll down to Group Buys under Classifieds)

The shareware download allows you to view error codes etc but not to make adjustments, for which you will need the full software.

This VAGCOM thing sounds ace.  I have a problem with my central locking and maybe I can tinker with it to sort it out.  :)  Although I'd need to buy a laptop to be able to get my computer close enough to my car!!
