where is the best place to buy a new hood from (not fitted)?
should i buy a vinyl hood or a mohair hood? what are the advantages of a mohair hood?
cheers!

Not bought a hood mysefl but have heard these few companies are fairly competetive and worth a look:
www.soft-tops.co.uk/
www.carhoodwarehouse.com
www.hothoods.co.uk/vw.htm
IMO Mohair looks soooo much better than the cheeper vinyl versions and is less likely to crack/rip with age iff well maintained
HTH :)

When I put one on my old cab I actually bought it from soft-tops and I thought it was sound and decent quality, not as good as the original mohair roof, but very close. I can't comment on the other companies as I've no experience of them.
As for mohair or vinyl, that's a bit like saying do you want to wear leather or plastic shoes ! As Phil says, the vinyl one is more likely to crack in time, but they are easier to keep clean as they can just be wiped over, but if you get some hood cleaner and protector (I used to use Autoglym) and look after it then get a mohair as they look so much better.
By the way, the autoglym protecter is wicked, if you get a new hood put some on and then throw a cup of water on it and watch the water just bead and roll off the hood. The only downside is that you have to buy the cleaner with the protector for about £18 as I never found them sold separately, but the protector only lasts about two goes but the cleaner lasts forever.

Gibby you don't clean enough! lol!
i'm with gibby, mohair over vinyl... unless vinyl suits the look you're going for? IMO mohair loks classier!
and i ued the autoglym on my room when it was green! Brilliant stuff!!!
