Title: Golf Gti Mk2 16v Engine Number
Post by: lobao on 09 May 2007, 23:41
Hello, i just bought a 1988 Golf GTI Mk2 16v, therefore and since I have no history on this car besides knowing it has suffered a full engine rebuilt (Invoices to backup), I would like to know wherabout in the car I am able to find it´s engine number/Code.

Apparently it is a "PL" engine (Sticker above Cambelt), but this is very confusing because in 1988 the car should be "KR" and I think Kat......

Further to That, the car also came with to boxes of spares in which I found an used camshaft with the inscription Seat DOHC 16v, and several spares that I can´t fit anywhere in the car.

Help Please..............

Should be a KR block. Look at the engine number. Should be stamped on the block behind the dip stick.
