I have the Golf GTI 8v mk3 and I want a decent exhaust... but: -
1: I dont want a stupidly loud one (Peco Big Boar etc)
2: I want more of a Subaru tone... than a Nova with big zorst!
3: I want twin pipes
4: I want it Stainless Steel not Mild Steel
5: Only a backbox, not the full system
6: Upto ?150
... any recommendations?
-
scorpion letterbox DTM backbox should give you a low rumble 8)
-
Ive looked at DTM exhausts, and they just seem a bit "boy racery" for me... and im TRYING to avoid that image...
-
DTM are very outdated now and you always see them on ebay with people trying to sell them on. I like the shotgun style exhausts.
Any stainless steel rear box will give you the noise you are after as the metal absorbs the sound waves in a different manner to mild steel systems so you always get a rasping type noise.
I would go for something like a scorpion or a jetex, but find out if you can fit the other parts needed to make it a full system at a later date.
-
Well I've looked at "twin pipe" Magnex & Scorpion so far ... and they are around the ?150 mark...
What are "Sebring", "Supersprint" and "Janspeed" like?
... I aint found anywhere selling Jetex yet, also VW sell a "sports exhaust" full system thats produced by Jetex!
-
just get a powerflow one. you can have whatever sound and shape you want.
-
dunno about powerflow... rather just have a standard type box
-
i've got a magnex twin dtm on my 16v mk3, and u can get the same back box for the 8v, sounds nice and roars very ncely over 4,000rpm but is not extreme in its loudness
-
yeah i looked at a few exhausts like that and it was saying "GTI16v/VR6" yet u could buy the full system for the 8v also??
so can I fit ANY 16v/VR6 backbox on my 8v? .eg scorpion @ larkspeed
-
not sure if u can put put a 16valve exhaust on an 8valver, but i am sure mr vr6 will let u know if its possible of not ;D
-
I have a Twin rectangular Sebring cat back system on my mk 3 not too loud not raspy looks cool but not boy racer in your face booyaka style and just as luck would have it i am selling it. It is not very old and was on the car when i bought it and i want to change it to make it mine if you know what i mean. I have the recept from Dubsport i will find it out and let you know how much it was. Mail me if you fancy a look. jim.brown37'tesco.net :)

ill keep an eye open ;)
-
yes that type...
why dont they make it??? surely all the gti's are the same
-
duno ???
If they dont im sure another company should have an identical one :)
-
wont do... i WANT Scorpion :-\
-
Im gonna get the Magnex 3" Twin FULL system.
Any idea how much extra bhp I'll gain?
-
I personaly think bhp gain out of an exhaust is bullsh!t unless i see it proven ::)
probably about 1-2 bhp duno?
-
exhausts are like tunes helps the car breathe more easily!! ;)
-
On my mk4, the 2 exhaust-pipes point downwards and doesn't protrude past the rear skirt.
If I were to get a new exhaust for my mk4, how would I fit it (as the bodywork would get in the way) ???? I fancy a pair of chrome-look shotgun type pipes (like on the mini cooper s)
-
Go with Dizzies suggestion of a Powerflow - it can be tuned to your specification, and would probably not be much more than any other decent performance exhaust.
-
whats adjustable on it?
-
there is nothing adjustable they just have a huge range of silencers that they can chop and choose depending on how you want it to sound
powerflow are a bit hit n miss, sometimes they will use the sh!te grade of stainless steel unless you ask for the T304 (??) grade
also the quality depends on the welder welding it
