Title: GTi ordered - Folding door mirrors question
Post by: Dave_gti on 09 May 2007, 13:03
Hi all,

My first post... just placed an order for a gti (3dr t-red) and only selected the following options:

Ipod/arm rest
High line computer

Standard spec seems to have most things I want, but I might be interested in adding the luxury pack 1 to get the folding door mirrors. My garage is pretty tight so it would be usefull if I could press a button to fold them in before driving in to the garage, so I wanted to check if this is possible? Or do they just fold in when the engine is turned off? Never had this feature on my cars so sorry if this is a stupid/obvious one!

Cheers.

they fold in and out by you and not auto. There is a control on the drivers door.
I think they are useful. Comes handy on those tight streets.

Yes it is possible. Turn the ignition on, fold them in and drive out the garage, then unfold them

We got them on ours, but they are by far the most pathetic folding mirrors I've ever seen - on most modern cars (Leon, BMW's, Mini etc), folding wing mirrors fold completely in.  These Golf ones just make a token effort, which looks rubbish, and is probably still susceptible to accidental damage.

Shame, as everything else is good.

Have you thought about getting the 18" monza II's instead of the 17's? Much better IMO. Unless youve gone for the Edition 30 that is.

yeah but 18" are harder to repair if you curb them and a harder ride.  but I agree they look better!  :smug:

I do really like the look of the 18" Monza's, but I decided to stick with the 17's. I have a mini cooper-s at the moment and the bone-shaking ride is a big reason for changing it. It wouldn't be so bad if we had decent road surfaces, but I don't think there are any round Hampshire/Berkshire way!

im not a big fan of the 18" Monza's. I saw a GTi on Saturday exactly like mine in black and it didnt look all that. The alloys were over-powering. The 17s compliment the GTi nicely i think.

I wouldn't be put off. They probably fold back 2" per side, but if, like me, you've got a narrow garage door opening, then that's a 4" safety margin. Glad I got mine and no regrets.

I have them too and while I agree that they don't fold much, it's better than nothing

Do the folding mirrors come with the lights in them on the GTI and Ed30 when ordered as Lux Pack1? The VW website says yes, the pricelist says no.
Cheers, Phil
