I wont bore you with the history behind this. I'm currently the 2nd driver on a '01 2.0 MK4. I got the 2.0 for insurance reasons (£1000). Next April I will have held my license for 2 years and want to get the 1.8T. Even with me as the 2nd driver I'm still looking at around £1600. Is this a resonable price? At this sort of price I probably won't get it. I'm not expecting a full on quote but here are the detials (what they will be in a years time).
Main driver 61 years old 8 years no claims
2nd driver 21 years old 0 no claims (2 years driving)
01' 1.8T MK4
CR0 postcode (Croydon, South London)
3rd Party
I got this car in March (1 month before I had been driving for 1 year). I have just done a requote on my car and its throwing up £700 with 1 years driving. Its same company (Kwik-fit). Is it worth canceling my current insurance policy and taking up a new one for £300 less?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Theres no way you can predict what insurance quotes will be like a year down the line. Yes, they should go down with more experiance and NCB but this isn't always the case.
Like you, I went for the 2.0 Gti as I refuse to pay big bucks for insurance (anything over £500 is a nono). I seem to remember you paid £5500 for it?? If so, that is top book and changing so soon will mean you taking a big hit in the pocket. I got mine around the same time as you and paid similar money (tho mine has anni kit, santas and 36k), I intend keeping this for at least 3 years. Maybe I'll go the turbo route then but I'll probably be looking at property then so an old banger will be my wheels.
Just out of interest, would I notice I big difference if I drove a 1.8T when compared to to the 2.0Gti? If so where would I notice this? (ie topend, midrange etc) I find mine fast enough for what I use it for, and it does look the business (pics elsewhere on here)

like chalk and cheese mate! 115 bhp vs 150 bhp(or 180). the 1.8T willl pull harder and faster throughout the rev range.

Hummmm I'm thinking I will probs just keep this then for a few years. Do some little touches to make it look smarter. Then see what's going on in a few years time.
Cheers fellas.
