what purpose does the forge dv 007 do, where can i get one and how much are they.
i know its stupid but i'm new to this stuff.
-
Forge DV 007 is a dump valve (hence the DV)
It acts as a more efficient replacement for the standard wastegate system (which vents excess boost pressure during throttle lift off).
Basically, when you lift off the throttle on a turbo charged car (to change gear for example) you need to vent the pressure side of the system to allow the turbo to be able to spool up again when you get back on the power.
If your engine is running more boost than standard the wastegate system will not be capable of venting all the excess pressure, so the turbo will be battling to spool up against the back pressure retained within the system, and you'll have Turbo lag (as well as a prematurely knackered turbo).
Cost? from ?100 I guess, not running one, so I can't say, I'm sure one of the petrol boys will chip in with the cost.

I took me a long time to type that correctly!
After a lot of 'friday night abuse'!

about to pay ?90 inc VAT with free fitting, thanks to vince at stealth ;D
-
i run a revo'd turbo and i use a baily dv 30 very good indeed ?99 and it takes 15 mins to fit. but 007 is just as good.just make sure what ever one you buy it a reciurcalating(sos about spelling) one as then you dont get the boy racer ppssssst every time you change gear.
-
i got one of em but i aint got a clue how much it cost jbs did everything under the bonnet ! but makes a nice noise when i change gear ;D
-
cheers for the help lads, is there much point in me getting one as i havent done anything to the engine apart from an induction kit. by the way running an 1.8t 150brake.
-
Get an anti lag system instead!
-
Ah, intresting, how does an anti-lag system work then! apart from prevents turbo lag!! ;)
-
Right, you know that lag is a term defining how long it takes for turbo to spool up and produce effective boost yeah?
What an anti-lag system does is manipulate fueling and timing to produce sufficient exhaust gasses to keep the turbo spooling, even at idling.
That way, when you jump on the throttle, your turbo is already capable of producing instant boost.
On the downside, you will reduce the life expectancy of your turbo, exhaust and cat (by how much is defined by how 'lairy' a system you choose) and your fuel consumption will increase.
But it is the magical way of going faster without producing more power. And if its good enough for th WRC boys, its got to be good enough for us GTi boys ;)

Nicely put! well done cheers 8)
