Have a problem with my indicators, when I indicate right it flashes faster as if one of the bulbs was gone - but neither are  What's the craic? Electronics aren't my forte...
-
take the relay out see if it is damp - I had some strange indicator goings on when I had a leak over my fusebox!
I blew it out with an DRY air line and that cured it!
-
check the earthing for the rear lights there might be a loose connection or something. thats what happened to mine.
-
Could be the flasher unit itself?
-
Ok guys, I'm pretty sure it's not the relay, how would I check the grounds on the rear lights if they're all working? Would the flasher unit not be working for the right hand side only??

You say neither bulb was gone... did you check the third bulb?
-
Yeah I couldn't find it! There's only 2 unless I'm seriously mistaken, which would be severely embarrassing
-
Front, back and side unless you have a blanking plate in place of the side one.
-
Does it flash faster when you press the brake pedal?
Ive got this in the mk3. Cant understand it
-
Yeah, the third bulb is on the wing. Unless its missing... then it would flash faster too!
Blue, sounds like a bad earth in the boot, all the rear lights share the same earth at the back, could be worth a look?

That thing just up from the red gti badge is not an indicator, it's a little plaque thing with the wolfsburg castle on it. Now I'm interested to know whether that's a common thing, I'm fairly certain it hasn't been changed from the factory.
-
Indicator badges were factory on early golfs, but only things like GL CL and things, never a Wolfsburg badge...
How long have you had the car? Is this fast flashing recent, on both sides?
-
I'll take a better pic later on then, I've had the car nearly a year, the flashing's only just started and only on the right.
-
Ok. Perhaps the person who fitted the badges just left the bulbs inside the wing, and its now blown?! I'm not sure how they would get around this problem with the models that had factory badges... perhaps they had a different relay??
-
chers jmallows ill clean up the earth's and see how it goes
I did add a resistor and it still flashed fast so im hoping its the earthing
-
I'm nearly certain this golf would have never had these indicators, if they were changed it was over 15 years ago - would indicators last that long if they were hidden away for that long?
-
Well, my indicators have been in 19 yrs, and never been changed! But then, no plate bulbs only lasted a yr last time, so all depepnds!
I'm sorry, but i dont have any other suggestions!!

Ok, should be that...

What year is your golf? And is it a UK spec? If you have owned it the past 15 years then i see where you are coming from...
IMO it would still be worth popping back the inner wheel arch to have a check. I know if i wanted to add badges in place of my indicators i would leave them inside the arch in case i ever wanted them back. The Wolfsburg side badges are a tidy mod but uk spec GTI's never came with these so at somepoint something has been changed. Other than that replace the relay?
