I'm really sorry as i'm sure there are plenty of nice people driving MK5 gti's....
I just have never met one. All the people driving them around our way seem to be complete idiots who obviously have gone to the dealership with too much money and asked for the best spec and been sold one.
Some spastic middle aged power woman nearly ran into my girlfriend in a car park then accused her of being at fault, i barely escaped some mid-life crisis lane-changing baffoon who couldn't drive for sh!t.
Doe's anyone else have similar experiences or perhaps there are just plenty of chumps around the south east with too much money who want to buy in to the gti thing??

We are likeable....Honest
-
it seems that they never want to associate with people who own the older golfs, not generalising but thats just the impression i get.
for eg i was in a traffic jam and there was this tornado red mark 5 gti going the opposite way, i looked at him he looked at me so i nodded as if to say, nice car. just blanked me.
-
show your respect mk5 drivers! Flash us!
-
exactly, i am unsure what to do with mark 3 owners, coz when i used to have a mark 2, mark 3 owners never responded.

i repsond to everything and flash anything....
-
ha ha
i used to be like that but i got sick of not getting any love back
-
i think with the case of most gti owners, they just have a gti because they have been given it, or they have bought it cheap. Rather than having a high interest in gti's and so don't look out for other VAG cars. if i see a nice looking car then I will give a nod but 9 times out of 10 I get nothing back
-
they're are two other mk2 big bumper tornado red 8v gti's around my way and they both wave and i have also been known to *ahem* race a little with them
-
its not only mk5s though, i find that i rarely get any response from most mk5, mk4 & mk3 drivers and usually get ignored by most aircooled stuff too (which surprises me as you must be an enthusiast to own a beetle or camper etc, i love aircooled but always get the impression that they dont like watercooled very much). This is just usually tho, there are exceptions.
The majority of mk1's mk2s and Rado's flash or wave.
-
i was pulled up the other day and a rado pulled up in front of me, so i nodded to the bloke who drove it and he gave me a dirty look, as if to say "what the hell are you looking at?!?!". He was about 40 so thought he would have had some courtesy to notise that i was admiring his car
-
I only get nod's/thumbs up and such from young mk2 GTI drivers ... mk3's and above dont seem to want to be associated with anything lower
-
ha ha quite pathetic really, i always try and wave although get ignored like one says by the mark 3s and above, i usually get a stare. I never bother to mark 5 owners cos they are snobs in general and i wouldnt waste my time and energy. No offence to any sound owners here.
-
me and my little man do the usual ' no worries dude' to any other car that we like the look of, but having a mk3, i have to admit, its only mk1-2's that nod back
-
Hey you guys
I ALWAYS let out the dub guys from side roads, never look down on anyone just because their car isn't as new as mine (in most cases they are extremely well looked after and that's what I like to see) and I do enjoy the whole VW vibe as it's more a family thing (group hug ) than other makes would even come close to.
-
...except for MG-Rover owners... :undecided:

Fair play matey, its unfair to tar all with the same brush and as i said it really is not only or all mk5 drivers, if anything its nicer when you do get respect from someone whos car is probably worth about 10 times as much as your own but is still obviously an enthusiast rather than someone who has it just as a company car or status symbol.
Its also good when you see a new wave dub being used properly, i remember one occasion with my old mk2 turbo when i had a bit of a drag race along a long straight with an R32 & got a respectful flash and nod as i turned off!

it's rare you see a mkI/II/III GTI but if i see em i flash em and they usually flash back and wave!!
i don't bother with the mk4 peeps they don't seem to be arsed
-
...but then the mark 4 wasnt a proper gti anyway?

and Rado's too i hope
-
i remember a few years ago borrowing an air cooled camper for a holiday and even when it broke down (very often) gettin flashed by the air cooled brigade..don't get the same responce from any golf driver's and I only flash and wave if i see a golfgti.co.uk sticker
-
i have never seen another golf gti sticker appart from on my car, obviously im the only member around my area
-
i got a wave today lol, sorry if this is no biggie for the rest of you, but its the first one that ive had  was a red mk2 in sidcup, just in case the person is on here, but doubt it
-
and Rado's too i hope
ive never seen a Rado in the flesh round these parts!
