im looking for a turbo conversion for a mk3 2.0l 8v GTI 1998 any one know any where that does them ?
-
ive not seen any turbo kits for these engines, would be mostly custom work. supercharger kits are around.. but.. you can get the same power doing a vr6 conversion instead. that would be far far easier and most likely cheaper.. yet acheiving the same power. the single biggest advantage of that route though, is that you have a much better base engine to modify when (not if  ) you get the craving for yet more power.

If your going for a tubby its best to make it all fully custom. thats how i did it on my old 1.4. you need to be good with a welder and its not cheep, if done right though its worth it! If your looking to run high boost you will need to look into engine rebuilding as well. you can get away with plonking two Head gaskets on to reduce compression but if you want to run serious boost, you need stronger pistons etc... depends how high you go. At least with two H/Gs 9 times out of 10 the gasket will blow before the piston.
IMO a turbo beats a super or N/A engine any day Rumm WOSHSHSHSHSHSSH TUSHHHHH << like my impression

how can you possibly say a turbo sounds better than a supercharger? are you quite mad ?
-
Go nitrous I say! Far easier and cheaper than anything else and you can double your HP!
-
nitrous is cheating and doesnt sound anywhere near as good as forced induction, and lets be honest the whine of a supercharger is heavenly
-
Turbo sounds better than Lens whining!
Supercharged G60 whine is music to my ears!
-
hey one of these days!
If I do fit NO2 I'll be the one laughing as I leave you lot standing! :smug:

yea for that brief moment, but not when you engine goes pop

lol thanks guys looks like i started a bit of a war lol i will look into the nos 2 i think

a supercharger does sound nice but not as nice as a turbo :P Not a big turbo anyway.
The only thing i don't like so much about superchargers is the fact it doesn't kick in, theres nothing better then the feeling of a tubby kicking in and slamming u back in ya seat. then a little turbo stall at the end

im halfway through my project at the mo.
im fully rebuilding my mk3 gti shell from bare metal with a fully welded in roll cage.
im runnin a 2.0l 16v abf engine which has been fully rebuilt using forged pistons steel rods a lightened and balanced crank and fly wheel.
my cylinder head is pretty much standard just fully rebuilt with piper cams.
ive had to make a custom inlet manifold and exhasut manifold all boost hoses and run a management system.
its a lot of work but will be very impressive when finished if you need any advice pm me and i can tell you where you can get lots of off the shelf bits to turbo your car!
