Title: Have you ever had your satnav/stereo nicked
Post by: Hurdy on 02 May 2007, 11:35
Right then,

After some adverse posts about people getting their stereo/satnav systems nicked from their cars, I wondered what percentage of people have actually suffered this fate. This isn't just a poll for MKV golf's, any car you've had over the last XX amount of years is fair voting.

Hmm, should prove interesting

well its a bit difficult for me. i dont need a sat nav bcuz i never go far in my golf bcuz he's 1.1 and he revs his knackers off doing 60 on the a500.

i also am not into stereo's that much..... my stereo has a head unit and 1 centre speaker for quality music lol
now thats what i call 'melted ice!!'

Can you alter the poll, to show something like:

- OEM SatNav

- OEM ICE

- Aftermarket fitted SatNav

- Aftermarket fitted ICE

- Stand-alone SatNav (like TomTom, Garmin, Magellan, Medion)

- No ICE/SatNav theft

beacuse there are marked differences between thefts of the free-standing, vs OEM fits.

There's no way I'm going to vote No. Talk about tempting fate....

Sorry TT, I thought the poll had an edit function :embarassed:

Turns out once you've released the Poll out into the wild for it to roam free, you can't edit it. We'll have another stab at it later on in the year with all the other bits added.
Seems like (so far) it is tomtoms in the lead

In the past I've had stereos nicked, windows broken, trainers stolen and I also had a car pinched and found burnt out too.

My God Gibby,

Were they all nicked whilst the cars were at home or somewhere else?

It's happened loads Hurdy, it's called living in a sh1t hole called Bradford ! Sometimes the car was parked near Bradford city centre when I worked there so had the stereo nicked, but the worst place, where I've had the most stuff happen to my cars, like when it got nicked and burnt out, was outside my mums in Bradford again. About 18 months ago some scrote nicked the stereo out of my camper, smashed the 1/4 light and made a bit of a mess of the dash too which really p1ssed me off. I put it down to the fact that my parents live slap bang in the middle between two sh!tty council estates and the wayne kerrs walk between the two.

As you can imagine, I learnt my lesson pretty quick about not leaving items on show and I always buy face off stereos now (the previous owner of my camper put in a fixed HU  ) I even go so far as putting every bag in my boot, even if it was full of rubbish, just in case someone breaks in to see what's actually in the bag as they might not know it's nothing and check anyway.

I don't live there anymore by the way, but I do spend the odd night or two there every week when I have my son. Hence the big disclock on my Rallye steering wheel.

So, I guess having a TOM TOM in Bradford would be just asking for it by the looks of it.

Having anything in Bradford that isn't nailed down is asking for it !

Saying that, the guy next door to where I live now (Wakefield) had his satnav nicked out of his car the other week and it's a decent area. What made it worse was that where I live is a cul de sac, so anyone on there who doesn't live there or is not visiting anyone then it's safe to say they are having a scout around (or maybe just house hunting  ).

I can't stress enough to people that you need to keep everything out of sight, out of sight is out of mind as thieves are looking for a quick rob, so unless you leave your car parked in a dark car park or road all night, then it's unlikely that they will have the time to get into a locked glove box or get to route around in your boot.
