Post by: Mboy on 01 May 2007, 12:16
Hi my ABS light has stopped coming on on my 98 MK3 GTI, is there an easy way to check to see if its the bulb that has blown ?

take out that bit of trim, a small philips screw driver or even finger nails on the side edge nearest the window and it'll just pop off. bulbs available from dealer for a quid or two.

Yes but have you made the ABS work?
Do it! You dont have to be driving that fast, say 30mph on a very quiet road, something like a Trading Estate one evening, just hit the brakes really really hard.

If it is only the bulb there must be a way of getting to it. But do the test first!

But be warmed it can be fun and become addictive!

I thought the unit was complete and couldn't change the bulb.

pulled unit out and the bulb is just soldered on, will a normal bulb do or does it have to be from vw ?

well if you've got one there to compare it to, anything with the same voltage and wattage will be fine - it should be stamped on the glass somewhere....

a bulb from an xmas tree would work, but the proper bulb from vw is £2, soldering is only 2 pins, easy if you have a soldering iron and a desoldering sucker thing. replace it for a led and resister.
