while my golf is not a gti i hope you can help??
i have a 1993 1.8 driver, and i would like to replace the
suspension with something a bit sportier, without breaking my bank balance, can i get away with just changing the spring's or do i have to do the dampers as well???
could anyone recommend a back box that wont look and sound like a howitzer as well
Thanks ;)

Hey
If you are on a budget as far as suspension goes u can get a good kit from G-max , it cost about ?250 for the "sports kit" (dampers and springs) and gave me a drop of around 60mm (if you are going low, watch out for the arches, but i think mk3 have a bit more room??)
As far as backboxes go, hmm im having to think about refined sound, as the only ones I can think of emit a deep burble on tickover and a throaty howl when in motion :)
Well im sure other people will chuck some more ideas your way, good luck with it all
Cheers

Hiya,
If you are on a budget you could go for a Raceland suspension kit, it's only about 150 quid. Always best to do a full kit rather than just the springs.
Is it Jetex exhausts that uses the line 'the quiet performer'?? Could be worth a look...

I had the following fitted today at Demon Tweeks on a Mark III GTi
Magnex 3" twin Stainless back box
Spax lowering springs (35mm)
The car handles SO much better, the exhaust gives out a nice (deep) roar when the power is down.
Total Price (exhaust & Springs) fitted ?350

I've got Magnex twin 3" pipes on my GTi. It is one of the quieter systems and, if you beleive what you read around the Web, is one of the best systems generally.
