Hello.
What is the pop-off vent and what does it do? :embarassed: Is it the thing that makes that cool sound of air being released when you change gears? (Sorry, I am no motor expert :embarassed: ).
I am asking myself whether I should install one on Jubi (once it arrives in 2.5 months). :undecided:

Eh??

Is he/are you talking about a dump valve?

I think so, and they make you look/sound like a Chav

FROM WIKIPEDIA:
A blowoff valve is a pressure release system present in turbocharged engines, its purpose is to prevent compressor surge and reduce wear on the engine. A blowoff valve, (BOV, sometimes hooter valve, dump valve) does basically the same thing, but releases the air to the atmosphere. This creates a very distinctive sound desired by many who own turbocharged sports cars. Some blowoff valves are sold with trumpet shaped exits that amplify the "Psshhhh" sound, these designs are normally marketed towards the tuner crowd. For some owners this is the only reason to fit a BOV. Motor sports governed by the FIA have made it illegal to vent unmuffled blowoff valves to the atmosphere. In the United States, Australia and Europe cars featuring unmuffled blowoff valves are illegal for street use.

 Jubi is the German name for GTI Ed30. It stands for Jubiläum = Anniversary
Here, some more info on blow-off valve, in English:

Dump Valve = CHAV
Dont do it people
-
I totally agree mate, Dump Valves are just another extra for the chava!
-
Do they actually serve any purpose over a standard wastegate?
Or is it just tho go whooosh every time you come off boost?
Pointless piece of s**t in my opinion

When I had my RS Focus every one said, "Go on get a dump valve, get a mongoose exhaust, get this get that" Did I listen did I crap! I by cars because I like then, I don't by then to turn them into some thing they are not! Next there will be a post on hear asking how to attach neon light under a MK5 golf! But then again it is there cars so then can do what then want with then!

I thought all turbo charged cars had a dump valve, just some have a trumpet on the end to make the chavvy, air release noise more audiable ??
Am I wrong :embarassed: ??

I believe you are right. Standard ones recirculate the pressure, the chav dump valve release the pressure, hence the noise. Something like that anyway.

Unless I am mistaken a standard turbocharged vehicle has what is known as a waste gate which as said above dumps the excedd boost back into the system, a dump valve dumps the excess boost into the engine bay creating a whoooosh in the process, and making the driver look like a twit in the process also

I though the aim of a dump valve whether it is an atmospheric or recirculated one was to help the turbo spool up quicker although I don't know what the BHP benefits are of an atmospheric dump valve is over a recirculationg one. I believe the difference is minimal and would only give any benefit to a big BHP car. :undecided:
-
I think that the releasing dump valve actually slows the car marginally as the turbo has to spool up again after the release.
The real gain is in the noise?!?! :undecided: :embarassed:

I heard the soundfiles of the pop-off valve  After just one minute I was tired of the Zchhhh sound...
