Post by: kniterider on 25 April 2007, 14:43
reeto! ive got avo coilovers on the sparkly vrarr, now im dropping it another inch on saturday, but i also want to firm the ride up (as there damping adjustable too), the front units the adjuster is in the center of the top mount, which way to i turn to stiffen it up/soften it?? i could just go the trial and error way but it would help if i knew before hand!! same the rear units, the damping adjuster knob is at the bottom of the unit which way to turn for what??

mucho thanks for any advice!!

Havent you got a knob to fit onto the top adjuster?
I have with my Spax ones and that has directional arrows on it!
If they are the same then its clockwise to harden and I would guess the same direction for the rears.

Hey mate mines on clockwise to get it to go harder, trial and error mate I guess just remeber how many turns you did and repeat on all sides
Oh yeah spray a sh!t load of Wd40 on the shaft for protection and clean them up whilst your down there anyway.

well what a pain in the ass day....... all damper settings on fully hard.... so i aint gonna get it any stiffer than it is.... not aporblem really was more curious than anything.... as for lowering.... not happening for a while, all grub screws in the spring platforms are siezed solid and rounded off (1/8th allen key, not metric here... imperial...), have tried knocking the platforms round with a punch/hammer but there stuck fast... so its on the current ride hieght till i get em all off and take em into work and drill em out and remove and clean etc then re drill the platforms and fit metric grubscrews and some new brass nudgers, gonna be a pain in the ass..... but gotta be done... the kits on the car just been neglected..

Gaz thats a pain mate one thing I was always told about the sleave collar where the allen key is, you should be no more than like 3 nwt's tight due to the bearings around the collar expanding against pressure. If the allen key has been tightened too tight and seized then they are useless. Check if they hold after cleanup becuase you might need to replace that collar. Best method is to mark it with perminate marker on the rings and see if there is movement after awhile if they do? The bearings and collar are finished.
