Title: Door Side Strips?

was wondering, rather than get new strips which total nearly 160 pounds from vw, any way of getting these to straighten up? i have two that are slightly bent, and the strips are pretty hard so wont go back into place, would heating it up with a blow dryer help in straightening these things? anyone else tried anything similar?

I am told that there is a metal strip inside them that cant be straightened.

So buy new I'm afraid. Try eurocarparts as they are cheaper than VAG Stealers!

the ones i have on the car have the red gti logo, guessing if i get it from eurocarparts it wont have the gti logo in red?

But then from my recent experiences you wont be able to find out as you will have to order the parts!
They do however operate a full refund policy and if you tell them if its not red I dont want it etc.

You got problems mate!!!

Eurocarparts do them, but depends on stock and you may have to special order them.
VAG main dealers are useles unless you can get the part numbers.

Euro approx Ã‚£180
VAG dealer = Ã‚£230

Secondhand they get snapped up quick and come up rarely.

Most scrappies know their value mate. Have heard of them going for Ã‚£120 s/h. And as I said they go quick.
Which is why I ended up buying new.

Post by: haf1zur on 08 May 2007, 14:54: well, took the strips off and sprayed them with satin black spray paint. it looks beautiful, i must say this car is going to look the dogs when i am finished with it, i get the final bits this weekend, so should be some really cool pics the weekend after

any meets in london?

Mine were pretty clean, no rust or anything, but a lot of dirt

Post by: ace on 08 May 2007, 19:44: took mine off at the weekend. got to the last one (back passenger side) and there was some flaking and a few scratches, must have been hit b4, but nothing to major. cars going in 2morrow to spray tops of bumpers, side mouldings and sort the rust out that is on the car. post pics when it returns, hopefully saturday the guy was saying!!!!!!!
