Title: Clutch Problem?
Post by: haf1zur on 24 April 2007, 08:19
Hi
Realised after driving another mk3 that the clutch is very very high up, and also, when i put my right foot down on the gas, after about 2000rpm the rev counter increases as if the clutch is pressed in.

Wondering if that is a new clutch or just need to bleed the master cylinder?

Any help appreciated

Sounds like the clutch is slipping pretty bad, new clutch time I'd say!

Sounds like you need a new clutch dude!

Just had mine done two weeks ago along with the flywheel after my clutch casing shattered.

Or should i just get a standard one from the dealers, i have a very heavy right foot so would be nice to have it last a while. If any of you know a better source costing less then please let me know.

The second one looks fine and there is a thrust bearing!

Certainly wouldnt pay 200 quid for an OMP one!

It will but not always that detailed.

Basic guide.

with car on ground undo centre wheel nuts.
Drain gearbox.
jack up
Split bottom suspension ball joint
Remove drive shafts
Split gearbox away from engine, supporting both seperately
Change clutch
Put back together.

That is very simplistic and have missed out a lot of small steps!

len you forgot about the way the clutch is bolted to the crank and then the flywheel covers this....and that the clutch is not just bolted to the flywheel like normal car's.......and the fact you need a spline key to remove the driveshaft's.
not the simpliest of job's worst luck as everything is back to front

Did you get this done mate? hows she drive now? i recently read an article saying that a diesal clutch is a good upgrade due to the torque it has to handle.. i might pop down the stealers and match them up to see if they are the same size etc

clutch feels smashing, very nice compared to what it was before

it now engages half way up, rather than 4mm before the top

the car actually does more than 30mph now and can get on the motorway

will have to push it once i have everything done
