Godday Posums :o
doin 60 mph down the m1, as you do, for about 30 mins as there is loads of traffic I switched the MFA and to my amazment :o im getting 47.6mpg :P ;D but then im thinking yeah rite! Probably wrong something wrong with MFA.....but the rest of MFA works fine. And yes im using Optimax! ;)
How accurate is the MFA?
cheers

I once drove my 92 16v down the motorway at a steady 50-55 mph for 35 miles or so. Much to my delight the MPG went from its 'average' of 33 mpg to 50 mpg !. It was in the early hours of the morning and I don't think you could drive like that all day every day but, it was an interesting experiment. Regards, yt.

I use optimax in my 1990 GTI and i did a 20 min journey at 55-65 mph and got a steady 44 mpg and thats on an engine thats done 153k!!!. so i dont see why you couldnt get 47mpg out of the baby.
just dont spend too long playing with the MFA like i do on the motorway!!! I have travelled for miles without remembering how, cos i was playing with the MFA. Golfs are great.

I wish I had MFA :-\

How acurate is your MFA's mile counter compared to the speedo one?
My MFA mile = 1.3 on my odo, so this would put my mpg out
-
iv never had mine above 31 and it said 12 this morning on the way to work! get about 30 on the duler but thats about all in fifth all the time between about 60 and 100 for 40 miles is this harsh!
-
i get about 31 on normal roads :D
-
take the vacuum pipe of the back of the dash and you can get 99.9mpg out of your MFA. ha ha ;D
-
most i had was 57 mpg but that was at a steady 40 mph. but that was current mgp, not overall.
Trouble is the MFA dont take into account all the other factors that might reduce your mpg, like underinflated tyres, head wind, heavy load. Always take the reading with a pinch of salt

My MFA usually reads at about 12mpg :o ;D
