???
Can anyone tell me where my Mk2 GTi came from or where it was made for? It is as follows........
1986
Black
5-door
Power steering
Air con.
4 x electric windows
Electric mirrors

All factory fitted. Perhaps made for export to South Africa or Australia or other RHD country. All opinions welcome.

What makes you think it is a foreign import? On the V5 does the 'date first registered' match up with it's reg plate?

Remember that your Golf was built at the height of the yuppie eighties, so they could all be UK dealer special order!  :)

Thanks for your reply, JV.

The car was bought by a General who worked for the Foreign Office. The reg. no. has been changed because of a private plate being fitted. The most baffling thing is the front grill. The standard twin grill wont fit because of the oversized radiator and plastic deflectors. There is a "normal" single headlight grill. I've contacted several VW dealers in the last few years but not found any Anoraks who could enlighten me!
Thanks again for your reply.

Will take a couple of pics of engine bay and front during the week (If it's not raining) and will add to this site if I can figure how to!

Many thanks for your reply.

PS For the more technically minded.....  There is a small rubber hose (about10mm o/d) from the back of the cylinder head (between injectors 3and 4) to a "T" piece in a hose running under the inlet manifold air box. Does that make sense? What does it do and will it affect the running if this hose is split? Again, your comments are welcome. M.

Sounds like a strange one!
You might be able to get a print out from the DVLA of the previous owners (I think it's ?25) and contact them to see if they know any more details.
cheers

Ask your local VW dealership where it came from.

All VWs are stored on a central database which will tell you where the car was supplied, and I believe its VW service history.

And the info is free and they should print it out for you. They did for ours.

Saves beating around the bush ;-)

as tinman says just go to your local dealer armed with your chassis no. and they should be able to help you if they can't, or refuse, telephone vw customer services...WYN
