A friend of mine who owns an 8 valve golf mark 2 is adement that his car is faster off the mark to say around 40mph then myMark 5 Gti with Dsg or any Mark 5 Gti. he says that on the Mk 2 forums they say it is even with any major mods, i know his has been cammed and larger exhaust then standard, but surely it cant beat it ?? can it??? :undecided:

Only one way to find out get yourself to the pod or York raceway and race a couple :D

even with a cam and exhaust the mk2 8 valve will only be about 125 130 bhp tops, so i doubt it very much indeed

I'll say it... NO FECKING WAY DUDE
-
I second that
-
maybe if you left the handbrake on they may have a chance
only way to settle the arguement is to find a private track and whip his ass!!

how much does a mk2 weigh ?
-
about 1100kg; maybe less :undecided:
how much is a MKV?
-
Around 1400kg for DSG
-
calculated some times from VW driver/my records/graph :nerd:
0-30 = 1.75
0-40 = 2.6
0-50 = 4.8
0-60 = 5.9
0-70 = 7.7
0-80 = 9.5
0-90 = 12.3
0-100 = 14.86
With a MKII cammed and free flow exhaust you may be at 140bhp so 140/1.1ton = 128bhp/ton + manual gear change.
With a MKV ED30 DSG standard with 227bhp gives 227/1.4 = 162bhp/ton + gearchanges at 0.02sec
In my calculated opinion it is a new urban myth trying to be started by some MKII owners
-
quick search on google seems to indicate the mk2 weighs about 930kg, so i guess i could be possible as at lower speeds that massive difference in weight would really help, but once the mk5 gets into its stride the extra power would show and itll pull away
-
Hmm,
If that's so it may be a little closer
MKII = 140bhp/0.93ton = 150.5bhp/ton
MKV std manual GTI = 197bhp/1.328ton = 148bhp/ton + heavier inertia
So, not as much of an urban myth as I first thought :undecided:
Santa Pod here we come

perhaps illyan, do u know after owning one of each mk GTi's, is the mk 2 quicker off the mark???
-
does the mk5 gti do 60mph in second gear?
-
i think it changes on 60mph from 2nd to 3rd but having dsg , i havent noticed exactly
