It's MOT time and need 2 new rear calipers :(
I have a 89 GTI 8v with the calipers having there hand brake mechanism on the rear ... what's involved in getting MK3's to fit as I keep getting conflicting stories !!!
Some say they'll fit but need the brake lines modded - some say straight swap
HELP?!?!!?!

Straight swap. Done it on my '90 8v.
Only have to mess about with the earlier calpiers if I remember correctly.

yeah but mines a small bumper '89 so not really a true 90 spec ...
Is this the same then ?
This is the route of the problem ...

late mk2 calipers have the handbrake mech on the back of the caliper
early mk2 have them on the side
they are straight swap on late mk2 calipers, no fiddling with handbrake cables
if you want mk3 calipers on an early mk2 then you need the later mk2 cables, and need a small bit of rerouting
and the usual word of advice, make sure you get late mk3 calipers, as early mk3 = late mk2 calipers

If your feeling lasy then VW charge about ?150 for one side.

Cheers guys - looking good then !
Get your ass in the chat room too .... ;D

Hello mate
If your chassis 10th letter says K(1989) then the mk3 calipers will fit.
