Title: Today I'm grinning like a cheshire cat
Post by: jaybv6 on 18 April 2007, 17:42
Well after waiting for a while I managed to get the track car working after fitting a new Blue Temp sensor.  She now flying again and spitting flames as normal.  Then when I get home I find a package waiting for me.  What could it be ?  oh just the 1 week old Eibach Pro kit i got for £90 .  Chuffed to bits I am :smug:.  Just gotta fit them now, sort out the clutch and I'm ready for my next track day.  Plus this is the weather for rolling round in the mk2 .

And now I'm not.  Car started this morning, albeit it was a bit lumpy and then died. So new dizzy cap, rotor arm and elads on order to see if that fixes it.

I think the lift pump is ok, it primes when you turn the ignition.  As it was sunny and warm yesterday afternoon the car started fine and I did a good run in it to check it was ok.  It always seems to happen when it's cold, quite possibly down to there being condensation in the dizzy.  Does that sound about right?

There are 2 pumps on a MK2 GTI, a lift pump in the tank and a main pump under the car :)
Replace the ignition components before you look at the pumps though.  Try starting/running at night, then you'll see if the leads or coil are arcing.  If you spray a fine mist of water over the leads/dizzy & coil sometimes you'll see them arcing as well.

I think it is the leads/dizzy/ ignition system somewhere.  Just come back from work, started it up and idle was lumpy.  I removed a lead and refitted and she seems to have sorted it.  It's now running fine.  It won't hurt to sort out the Dizzy, rotor arm and leads as they are very old by the looks of them.  Whilst I am waiting fro them to arrive I'll stick the Eibachs  on
