Title: Disaster - leaving the country...do I keep the GTI?

I just found out I have to move to US for work this summer. Obviously this is quite exciting, but I will be gone for 2/3 years+, so what do I do with my lovely new Ed30?

Do I leave it slowly deprechiating in a garage and only drive it when I come home for Christmas? Or do I try and take it with me? Or, do I bite the bullett and sell it now when its value is high (2 months old, fully run in, only 1K miles on the clock)?

Post by: Hurdy on 18 April 2007, 17:49: If I were in the same position as this, I would sell. It makes no sense to mothball a car for so long. Sell now while the value is still high and if you feel the need in 2-3 yrs buy a second hand one at a knock down price :wink:

ED30 will get good money still, probably your money back so sell it, as above, makes no sense to keep it.

also you will be able to buy a GTI and maybe a ED30 at a lot less then here! :laugh:

i would also consider what happens if you stay in the US for longer tha planned You're just burning cash.

I was there the other month and new GTI's were about $22k. Almost half the price at the current exchange rate.

They do come with SUV suspension though which you'd need to sort.
