Title: 16 valve lowering
Post by: Egyvalver on 18 April 2007, 07:58
Hi there

I own a completely standard 16v with 95k on the clock.

I am thinking about buying a set of Eibach lowering springs (-20mm) and a  set of 8mm wheel spacers to widen the track front and rear by 16mm.

firstly, has anyone lwered their valver the same and if so do you have any pictures s i can see what mine is going to look like!

Secondly, what else should i replace from the suspension components? The dampers are fairly new but would it make sense to replace the top mounts/ bump stops etc?

Finally, can you use Golf g60 top mounts at the front (rather than bonrath etc ones ) and will this lower the front a little more and if so can anyone sort me out with a part number?

Thanks for any help you can give

I can't help with the pics, but hopfully i can with the other bits!

G60 top mounts are well worth going for. A place that is recommended by a few people is www.vwspares.co.uk (http://www.vwspares.co.uk). As for the bump stops and boots, if they are relatively new and look in good condition they are probably ok to leave. However, if you have a spare 20 quid you could always get a set for peace of mind.

As far as i am aware though the g60 top mounts don't lower the car any more than standard top mounts. That may be lowering spring caps that you're thinking about(around 10mm)?

Heres mine with a -40mm kit fitted, -20mm on a 16v would be -50 overall from std, but what are they quoting -20 for, a 16v, 8v GTI or std MK2?

What offset are your wheels atm, I found that ET28 is the lowest you can go on a drop like this up front without arch mods, and about ET15 at the rear.  G60 mounts are stronger but dont lower any more as said :)

cheers for the replies

the eibach springs i am interested in quote -20mm over a standard 16 valve i believe - if anyone knwos any different then i'd be interested to know?

Wheels are standard BBS RA's so i dont see any problems there

FInally - does anyone have experience of eibach pro spring kit with standard dampers i.e. do they significantly affect the ride quality?

Cheers

They significantly improve it! A quality cheap set of shocks to go with the springs are Boge Turbo's from GSF.

Just had a thought, i think Rowlers on here has just got some Eibach springs on his 16v. Maybe worth sending him a PM to ask how they are.

I'd be here

Deffo go for the -20 Eibachs, they are fab, I've got them paired with cheapo ebay sport shocks, and really can't fault it, the ride is comfortable and it loves to be pushed around the bends!
