Hi guys, pretty basic question really to any1 who has changed a head unit im a mk3... Is the radio antenna amped from the car? basicly my h/u isnt picking any stations up except radio1 and at the best of times that looses quality during driving! Do i need to make sure theres power to the antenna or just get rid of the small ariel and get hold of a standard one?
Cheers

If it's original VW it will be an amplified antenna the coax will have a smaller cable running down the side connect this to the blue white elec ariel wire or the blue remote turn on wire should help matters :)

good bit of info, i did not know that, my radio reception i useless, ill have to check this out, i rarely listen to the radio anyway, would be nice to have the option though!

You'll need a PC5-90 Amplified Antenna ISO to DIN connector between your h/u and aerial lead.
Looks like this:

And about £5-10 delivered, available on eBay or google it. Check that there is an extra wire going to your aerial first, to make sure that your aerial is amplified.

I had the same problem with my old beemer, i couldnt pick anything up untill i found an amp box in one of the rear panels, sorted that and had acccess to nearly every station i could possably want!

is the arial roof or wing mounted? u could always check that its been earthed because that can mean a lack of reception.

I've fitted an ariel amplifier thing and the reception still sucks ass, only get radio 1 and the other 2 stations it gets are very fuzzy
