Title: gearbox??

Looking round my engine bay on the mk2 i realised there's a sensor hanging off and i can only see one place where its come from, which looks to be on the top of the gearbox, any idea what it is or for?

this little bugger right here, i can only think the plugs come off of that point as it wont reach anywhere else, but i still have no idea what it's for.

I had the same problem just mine didn't work wasn't snaped like that!

I just poped to my local Motor DIY store grabed a new one for just under a fiver cut the big black plug off and crimped some new spade ends on  to the two wires and bobs your uncle works fine now mate!!!!! :grin:

scrappy, any late 90 spec MK2 and I think rod change MK3 will do :)

^^^ tight arse, they're only about £4 from gsf and about £6 from vw!

To answear your question what did i buy?

It the Reverse Switch mate

Easy to replace screw out screw in jobby!

Like the guys said if you pop to the scrappy or even VW they will give you one with the plactic on it they are not expencive i only got a cheaper one cause the car is without exhaust and my nearest VW dealer is about 15miles away Woop Woop!!!

there are a couple of different reverse switches about, I think the one GTI Jamie got was a pre-90 one which has 2 spades on top, the post 90 ones have a proper plug connector. 
There are large ones fitted to early cars which go in the side of the selector housing and operate an MPG guage & upshift light :cool:

Mine has got the spades on but it still works so im cool with it!
