Title: similar wheels...
Post by: NixGTI on 16 April 2007, 21:01
I've seen a design similar to this
http://www.performancealloys.com/details.asp?procedure=wheel&id_wheels='199'&id_wheels_manufacturers='Replicas'&id_wheels_sizes='18x8.5'&price='119'&permission=424697797 (http://www.performancealloys.com/details.asp?procedure=wheel&id_wheels='199'&id_wheels_manufacturers='Replicas'&id_wheels_sizes='18x8.5'&price='119'&permission=424697797) but the centre cap was smaller and spokes longer, and a couple more spokes too, thay may even have been on a mk4 gti, any idea's of what it was i saw?
also, is the centre cap bigger because of the larger hub size of a mk2 that I want to fit them too?

cheers guys.

the centre is bigger coz they are a replica of the wheels that come on an audi rs8 i think. im not a fan of them tbh, certainly dont think they'd suit a mk2 but im a deep wheel man.

Thanks, found another replica http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110113960448&ih=001&category=9888&rd=1 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110113960448&ih=001&category=9888&rd=1)
which i think look better

and yeah, the classic look on mk2's are BBS deep alloys, but it's not what i'm going for... could do with a photoshop job i think, and to find a 4 stud version...

i think you'll be hard pushed to find a 4 stud set, so you'd need a high offset (et50?) with an adaptor to swap it from 5x100 to 4x100.

ok, bear with me while i learn aout offsets, but are they measured in mm? the offset of a mk2 is et35-et40 right? so if i got an adaptor that was 10mm thick i'd want a wheel with an offset of et45-et50?

yeah et is in mm, so a wheel with an offset of et45 with a 20mm adaptor would end up et25.

so ideally you need a wheel of et50/55 to get et30/35 as most adaptors are 20mm thick. still not sure how they'd suit a mk2 though... what colour is it? big or small bumper?

other way to do it is to change your hubs to 5stud off a mk3 gti.

it's black with big bumpers, hmmm mk3 hubs, didn't think of that, they gonna be a straight swap or am i gonna have as hard a time fitting them as using adaptors?

not hard to put mk3 hubs on but alot more effort......

but probably less effort than getting the contact surface of all your brand new wheels milled down 20mm to get the adapters in there... that's the only way ive seen it done before (unless you have rallye arches)

thanks for the pic, but hard compare to my car as mines a standard black 5dr, but they look even better on the move, but looks like there's a fair bit of work involved!
Plenty of worked needed on the rest of the car before i get to them tho, at the moment i've got some TSW multispokes on, with red centre nuts... not to my taste, but came with the car and have 4 decent tyres on so cant complain.
