Right, as some of you may be aware I have been slowly, and I mean slowly, building my mark 2 16v back up again after the crash in November 2005.
The work was put on hold because the geezer who owns the unit I used to have was a bit of a bell end and made us move everything out whilst the council came round to inspect the unit. This meant I couldnt work on the car. That was supposed to be for two weeks but turned out to be 4 months. So as it stands now the car is back on my drive at home with no wing, or bumper on the car looking a terrible state.
Now after scrapping my scirocco I was wondering whether it would be worth doing the same to my valver and then just buying a new one, start again. So i was wondering whether you lot could advise me on what to do from a neutrals perspective.
Reasons for scrapping my 16v:
Quick cash,
Horrible looking shed off the driveway,
be down to just the one car, which i can sell then buy another valver.
Its a Cat C right off so will be hard to sell on anyway.
It needs a fair bit of work to do.
I cant afford to rent another unit to store it in at the moment.
My mechanic is busy at the moment with his project so will not be hard to find time for it.
Reasons against:
I have come this far so I may as well finish it.
If I cant find another Royal Blue valver I will be stuck with 3 panels in that colour.
Lots of time and money wasted.
would be a shame to scrap a decent ish shell and engine.
Your thoughts please?

sell and start again mate....
justy my opinion!!!

I think thats the way its going to be, take the bits out I can use again, interior and wheels etc and then scrap the shell.

Start again.. you will find new enthuseiasm! also its possibly too late in the year now to set on doing lots of work, and missing the best of another summer. find a nice one,, and make it yours!

hard one mate, from an outsiders point of view i would say break it and start fresh.......BUT had it been my car, i hate to quit on a project and get quite attatched to cars so would be tempted to see it through..... :undecided:

my thoughts exactly martin!
it was only because I got attached to it that I wanted to keep it.
Its just trying to find another one for £1500 or so that will be hard!

its the best thing mate. hard tho it may be.

If you had already done a lot of work to other parts of the car then I would say keep it mate, but the way it's going with it I'd have to be inclined to say it would be easier to start with another one...

anyone know of any 16v's that will be for sale in the next few months?
-
How much you want for it ?

how bad is the actual damage???? What will you get cash for it/parts??? If you rebuilt it, and its a Cat C, due to the age as lot of people know that if its old then insurance tend to Cat C anything under £1800 as any panel damage is usually around £1500 to sort. How much of the original project is still intact and does it drive fine? All of these are the Q's I'd be asking...and I hate scrapping things and starting over.
Just quick thought...have you tried to sell the car in the state its in??? Low offers and all of that?
-
well I would prob want about £500 if I am honest Stu, that of course would include the newly sprayed bonnet, bumper and wing by a professional sprayer. so that just leaves you to get it through an MOT and VIC check.
the car has electric windows, full closure alarm with remote central locking, all the usual 90 spec refinements i.e rainbow interior (which by the way is immaculate), power steering and all that gubbins.
you are welcome to come down and have a look at it if you want stu

the damge isnt much really, just needed a new wing, bonnet and bumper, which I have had sprayed but not picked up yet.
The engine hasnt been run in a while, battery is flat. It was mint when I had it though, no smoke, no leaks etc.
I would prob sell the interior for about £100 as its very clean
The RA's for about £200 ish
sell the panels for about £200 ish that have just been sprayed
sell the brand new front panel for about £40
