Title: Fitting electric windows
Post by: JMallows on 15 April 2007, 18:03
Hi. I've been after some electric windows for a while now... and seem to have found some. The chap is going to take out of the car whatever i need, but i'm not sure what i need...!

I know i need the two regulators and motors, and obviously i need the switches? I'm not sure about the wiring, is it worth getting the whole loom, and plugging it all in in the factory locations ( i think his car is 90 spec, and mine isnt... so locations different?), or is it easier to get the basics and just wire it up myself?

If so, for both, i there a relay, and i seem to remember something about a thermal fuse or something?!

Thanks :)

I stripped the lot from a donor of different age. If memory serves me correctly, it does fit. Even if it doesn't you can use the loom to make a 'pattern' loom to suit yours. And yes, there is a fuse block located on the fuse panel where all wires 'meet up'. you will need this too. look on the search function on this site i think, there is a basic loom (?) diagram. Hope this helps.

as long as the door glass is the same as yours it should be ok.

I just hard wired my loom into the car.

You can make a loom without the relays but you need to remove the bulbs from the switches for it to work.

I made a diagram. check the 'mk2 technical' section :nerd:

Cheers, i did see the diagram in the maintenance section, and seems like a simple answer to the problem! Only trouble is, i want the lights to work, and i see no reason why they shouldnt?? Though, i've never looked at a switch, or motor, so all guess work at the moment! If i tell him i want the regulators, switches, wiring, and i guess the relay, is that all i need, or is there more!?
