Lovely pics Illyun, couple of questions for you if I may. Do you keep the bonnet bra on the car all the time? If so, does it not leave a line across the bonnet due to paint fade when you take it off? Being nosey now , whats the badge under the Ed30 badge on the boot?

Cheers,

Hully

Is that aerial standard or an extra?

Very nice pics, just a quick question, is the ed30 passenger side at the front bumper scratched?

Also how do you find the pearl black finish, looking at ordering either pearl black or grey. Ive owned black cars before and know they need more attention though just wondered if many scratches / small imperfections have appeared yet?

Also are those the smoked factory fitted tints?

Many thanks in advance for your reply matey

I am guessing that this is the paint protection film that Illyun has applyed him self! If you are not carfull when waxing the car (No offence ) then you get a line of wax on the edge of the film, hence it looks like a scratch! if you can be bothered like me you mask it off around all the edges first, but it can be cleaned out it is just a pain!

Where did you get your bra from mate????

Post by: illyun on 16 April 2007, 14:17
LOL

No scratches on the car - its just the wax on the edge of the stonechip protection - sourced from VW - I have temporarily put on until later this year when I have the money to get it done by Autofend or whoever they are.

The black paint hasn't got a hint of scratch or swirl marks anywhere as I had Autoglym lifeshine put on and have hand washed and waxed it 4-5 times since - almost every week.

Also the black Autobra is not on all the time so shouldn't give any problems as regards paint fade.

I've heard elsewhere, that Turtle wax Ice polish, or some such name, is a particularly crap polish but is brilliant at wiping wax straight off the stone chip shield edge. Yet to be tried!

Looking fantastic!

I haven't been keeping track of the forums, but I recall thinking when you posted your first Ed30 shots that the car looked too high. Has it been lowered since? or just settled? as it looks  now

PS - Are the mk2 pics taken in Ipswich? looks like Woodbridge rd (used to live there) - could be totally wrong, but I recall you saying you were Ipswich based)

I dont really understand why you'd order another ED30 when you seemed quite disappointed with it at first - I've not been on here for a while so I may have missed your change of heart, but it sounded to me like you were R32 all the way!

I am an R32 fan BUT I can get one next year and the Edition 30 is a limited edition that I will keep for good. Plus it doesn't cost the earth for fuel bills.

It seems to have settled.  As for the Mk2 it is in Ipswich near Woodbridge Rd but it may have to go as I have been offered around £5750 for it with the BBS RS001s and the guy knows someone with another 3-door Oak Green 16v - 1 owner - with 27k miles who may take around £10k for the car

a 27k car! wow, sounds a gem,

Do you still have the other mk2's and mk1?

Fond memories of living in Christchurch Park area, I recognised that road as being one of the roads oout east towards BT.

Ed30 looks fab now, wheel/arch proportions just right.

Illyun, both cracking motors!

I bet Mrs Illyun just loves you, though, for only getting a 3dr, and not five, especially when tying to strap little Illyun in the back seats!!!  :nerd:  :smug:

Serious :nerd: question, though.  Does the Ed30 not have tyre pressure monitoring, 'cause you have standard rubber snap-in tyre valves, rather than metal clamp-in valves with integrated pressure sensors ???

Interesting here Sean. Seems all GTi's and Ed30's now come with run of mill plastic valves unless you complain and get them changed. Mine went down as a manufacturing fault.

Anyway, i was lead to believe that the tyre pressure system runs via the abs sensors and detects variations in the rolling circumference of a wheel. Hence the valves don't matter do they?

Staying with the Edition 30, I collected mine on Friday, and noticed that the passenger-side wiper, when "parked", sits quite high on the windscreen. I was sure that on my previous GTi, both wipers parked below the level of the rear bonnet lip. Yet looking at illyun's pictures, the same seems to be the case . Anyone else noticed this?

Yes mine does this and I have always thought It was a shame as it would look a lot tider if it was tucked away to! I hope it is a fault and it can get fixed!

cannot you not just take off the wiper and move it down? are the wiper arms on splines?  i know on the MKIV they are.

though looking at the pic it looks as if it would catch the A-pillar.

I'm not on about the actual screw-on valve caps.  It is actually the valve "stems" - on my GTI, and RS4, the stems are metal, and are bolted into the rim, and have an electrical pressure sensor and transmitter actually inside the tyre.  On Illys pics of his Ed30, he seems to have the old skool rubber valves, which don't have any kind of pressure sensor.

I am aware that the Golf TPMS uses the ABS wheel speed sensors, and measures differencies in rotational speeds, but this is nowhere near as accurate, nor as quick as the systems which also use actual pressure sensors.  The earlier ones must use a combination of both systems.  Looks like more cost-cutting!

If you have the rain sensor, leave the wiper switch in the first (intermittent) position, and the ignition on - then the wipers actually park in a raised position - sort of "ready for action"   :nerd:.  They also use a "variable" park mechanism, whereby they actually park in a different position each time, presumably to prevent wear to the actual screen!

Try moving the wiper switch to off, and then turning on, then off your ignition again, and watch the wipers "twitch".

If, after trying that a few times, and you are still not happy with the high park, then, as Rhyso states, simply move the arm slightly and reposition it a little lower.  Just make sure that you still keep the "overlap" between the two swept areas, at the top of the screen, near the internal mirror, and the rain sensor!

Plonker  - that would be if he moved the drivers side too much, not the passenger side, which is what seems to be the problem!!

Righty, I think we had crossed wires!

I though you meant it would catch the A-pillar on full sweep, hence my comment about the passenger side - doh.  :embarassed:

Now I understand what you are saying - however, even if the passenger side blade was even lower, it still wouldn't actually catch the A-pillar, 'cause the black rubber trims are actually a "U" shape, with a recess for the rain water to drain.

Looking again at Illys, the passenger blade is still parked in the "black" area of the glass, so it wouldn't actually impair vision anyway!  :nerd:

Car looks spot on.  Was wondering how black bbs ch wheels would look on a black car and they look very nice.  I think the red detail around the wheel is the icing on the cake.  I was thinking of getting the black edition bbs ch when i hopefully get round to start modding, but i'm not sure how they will look now compared to the wheels you have on.

By the way, your front left wheel looks awfuly close to the curb (almost off the curb )

I was a quite worried about whether they would go together with the car, but as soon as they went on I knew it looked right.  Its the red lips that make the difference. and I think without them it might not work.
