Anyone know:
Whens it out?
How much will it be?
Whats the performance stats?
-
Its going to debut at the Paris motor show, which is in September. It should be on sale mid-November.
Price is unconfirmed at present (because as yet no spec has been confirmed), but you can bet you won't see much, if any, change from ?19k
Again, as the spec hasn't been confirmed, the performance figures haven't been released, but based on power output, one could assume the standard 200hp 2.0 litre fsi turbo will perform marginally better than the current 180bhp 1.8T
-
the current "GT" is capable of 8.9secs.
I reckon the 200bhp GTI will be 7.4secs.

7.4 secs, eh. I was thinking maybe 7.36
*Sarcasm is wasted on the internet*

too optimistic mate... 7.38 and thats pushing it :D
-
Are VW still going to use a VR6 lump?
-
oh yes, there's an R32 replacement on the cards - I think they're stretching it to 3.4 litres (R34 maybe?!)
-
nice :D
-
coupled with the DSG box that will be one awesome machine
-
R36 I heard. Should be a beast 8)
-
Yes its gonna be a 3.6l V6 in the new "R" series Golf
-
That's just getting ludicrous. ( but I like it ;D )
-
Richy,
That's a very nicely finished car you have there in your photo. Can I ask you what polish you use ? Regards, yt.
-
Turtle Wax Colour Magic.
-
try 3m car compound, only available to trade and ?20 a bottle but is ssssssoooooooo good, gets rid of all swirl marks.
-
anyone see them test drive the new golf gti on top gear last nite? clarkson said it was fantastic,he said it wud cost about ?20k and 0-60 time of about 6secs.
-
Missed the first 10 minutes or so last night so didn't see it. I've not heard or seen a bad review about it yet but the 20k is for the base model, add some nice bits and bobs to it and you're looking at 24k+
Having said that, jte said the other week that the mk3 VR6 was 23k brand new and that must be nearly 10 years ago.
-
I want the new GTI but on Top Gear the car had that horrible Black rear valnce which spoilt it, i thought it was fully colour coded with twin pipes as standard.
it maybe haevy but its gots lots of power and the 2.0 litre turbo sounded sweet as a nut. He reckons it was pulling well doing 30 in 6th gear. Awesome
-
Looks like i get to test drive one on my birthday  (http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~dv8r/dancing-bush.gif)
-
you jammy cont topher
-
They are released officially in Jan 2005.
I have been driving one this evening at my local VW dealer.
Lets just say....! I want one. 2.0 l turbo with virtually no lag. Pulls like the diesels in high gears but sounds good and keeps pulling. I'm very impressed with performance and the look of this amazing car. Better than wasting your money on any of those out of date BMW's Ha!
-
i've already been in contact with REVO about remapping the new gti to around 240 - 250 bhp.. now THAT will be fun
-
That would go something like this
Zooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmm. . . . . .
-
Got an email from VW today saying you can now book a test drive

I have a GTI DSG on test drive at the moment (all weekend) and I have to say, im well impressed.? I WAS looking at the A3 Sportback, but saw the GTI yesterday and was, well, stunned.
As far as DSG goes, nice piece of technology, but it takes away too much of the driving experience for me.? To easy to get lulled into the Auto mode of driving, and prefer to have that extra control of a manual.
The car is, I feel, lacking a little in performance, but Im sure that a trip to AwesomeGTI will render that comment pointless.? The engine is smooth and yet delivers good even power when needed.? An extra 50PS will sort it I think.
The ride is superb, combined with the spec, it beats the A3 sportback on price by a long way, and the materials used are on a par with Audi.
I am an Audi purist, and I own the TT Forum, but this has suprised me, pleasantly so, to the point that I will not be buying the A3, but the Golf GTI (got to have a baby carrier!!).
Go on, take it for a test drive, you'll love it!!

Brought this old topic back because people used words like 'stunned' about the MK5 GTI.
For the Mk6 de silva designed GTI they use words like 'nice'.
Enough said.
-
well found egbert!, top man, nice to see what was said about the current mk5 from yesturyear!
-

I reckon the 200bhp GTI will be 7.4secs.
Cool, that would make it slower than the outgoing model, which makes it in 7.0 for the manual and 6.7 for the DSG.

Have you seen the date of the post your qouting ?
-
Ooops, I thought the whole thread had a bit of an old vibe to it!
:embarassed:
-
MK6 GTI? Hurdy you're having a laugh!

Yeah but the mk4 is not very good, well not in terms of performance. Standard its barely a warm hatch, the mk6 is being compared to the mk5 so its not going to be a big 'wow' description. If the mk5 was based so closely to the mk4 with little power hike it wouldnt have been received so well!
There always going to be people who dont like the next model. Every forum has the current owners slating the newest model. The ctr forum had a huge thread on the fn2, the subaru and evo forums had huge threads on the new cars, the clio 197 etc etc.
If you look at it as a car, rather than with the comparison to the mk5; its awesome!
