Well guys,
I've been thinking about this long and hard over the last few days.
My ED30 will have over 1000 miles on the clock by the time I go down to the GTi spring festival and I have been toying with the idea of taking it down the dragstrip. I will be on the Club stand for most of the day anyway and I feel the temptation may just be too much to resist.
Should I or shouldn't I? :undecided:
Has anyone any tips for getting a good time if I do? - My paln would just be to turn off the ESP and nail it off the line using the DSG  (not the launch control though!!!!).
Any guesses as to what I would get (my guess is 0-60 circa 6.4 and 1/4 mile in 14.3 ish :nerd:)

Too tempting..........But she is still tight & new.
Your call. Mind you if you have reved her through already what is the difference?
Let us know.

if u can master using the launch control then use it, i have sussed it, need to practice it mind, if u do not much will keep up trust me
-
Well I went and did it
No 0-60 times given on the slip but the headline figures are:-
1/4 mile in 14.32 secs
Terminal speed 98.27mph
By my reckoning that's 0-100mph in well under 15 secs
All this from a car with only just over 1100 miles on the clock and still stock
Day overall was excellent and if you look over on the shows, events and meets section kniterider has put some excellent pics and vids on of the day.

Good work that man! A member of my R32 site (www.r32register.co.uk) managed a best of 14.61...and she's supposed to running almost 300bhp I believe!
Damn these Ed30's are pokey!

Fook me that's quick! And quicker than an R32 and Megane R26!!!
Good skills!

only one problem.......... They feel so smooth and you just DON'T feel like you are going fast!!! That's great in one way, but in another...like the other day..... before you know it you are close on double the permitted speeds for motorways. I was shocked when I looked at the speedo!

Totally agree - most fast cars are the same these days - my old EVO MR340 was the worst for this.
I think the only way forward for this is to eventually remap / miltek exhaust it......
I think if you want to 1/4 mile your car is great, however i wouldn't tell anyone you've done it as who would want to buy your car afterwards??? Personally i don't see the point in thrashing new road cars - especially front wheel drive hatch backs - much rather see something old (10 sec beetle!) go indecently fast and whip the ass off something indecently expensive. Interesting to see the times though

Hi Ollieb7,
Isn't what you are saying a little contradictory?
Starting off with:-
I think the only way forward for this is to eventually remap / miltek exhaust it......
And ending up with:-
Personally i don't see the point in thrashing new road cars - especially front wheel drive hatch backs
What is the point in having a standard sports hatchback let alone a chipped and uprated one if you don't use it? :undecided:
It is very rare you can use the power of any sports car legally unless you use it for track days and/or quarter mile sprints.
I suppose some will just buy the car for it's heritage or it's limited edition exclusivity or for the road presence it has.
Me....I like the power and the handling
I agree totally with the 10 second beetle, only isn't it great to be taking part at the side (or behind it in most cases ) of it, rather than watching from the sidelines?

Ohh Hurdy  - this quote is specifically for the 1/4 mile thread - Front wheel drive hot hatch is all about stringing corners together and for that i use some very remote parts of scotland to drive around like a girl!

Mind you, my sister drives cars like she stole 'em
