Hi fellas. I know i,m a bit new here and dont really know any off you guys but i have been involved in racing for 22 years including 5 years on the hills in a mk1 gti.I have just bought another car to build for trackdays and general hooliganism. As part of the prep on any good trackday car there is usually the need to pull as much weight as posible out of the car so to this end i have approached a company about a composite bonnet and tailgate for mk1 cars, this company can also build a kevlar[for strength] sunroof delete panel, which i know is generally a horrible job that can leave a other wise nice car looking a little nasty around this area. The company in question is Alpha composites which can be found at
http://www.alpha-composites.co.uk
The quality of the workmanship looks very good indeed. This is very hard to come by when allied to a fair price in my experience.Well after a coversation with the pricipal there the outcome is he is willing to make the above panels and maybe more if i can get a minimum of five but preferably ten pieces. The bonnets work out between £80-£100 and tailgates between £100-£140 but this will depend on the compexity of the job and the quantity required.I am willing to send parts from my own car to have the moulds taken from for these panels, the cost of the moulds the company will absorb if the minimum order criteria as stated previously can be met. Also he can supply the latest spec polycarbonate windows.I am also more than willing to sort this out if it helps you guys.
Thank,Dave.

any Mk 2 panels? could do with a sunroof delete panel
-
Hi Heinz, have a measure up of the mk2 panel and if its the same as mk1 then no worries.I only spoke to them about mk1 panels so far as that is what i own [and notice thats what a lot of therackday filks seem to own. But get back to me with some dims and i'll ask the question.
PS what are folks general thoughts on these panels. I notice the thread as had a lot of looks but no additions. Is it a price issue or something else?
Thanks,
Dave.

I'd have a think about a bonnet..
-
Well like i say Simon if we can get just five folks together these panels will happen no worries.
This guys kit fits just gret too with coresponding quality.
-
i might be interest in a bonnet
-
Ok thats 3 bonnets 2 more and were off and trotting. If any of you guys can let me know if the mk1 and mk2 sunroofs are the same size then i,m sure these sunroof delete panels will be a good thing especially with the mk2 race seires comes online.
The quality off this guys work is outstanding. The main concern he expressed to me was one of not dissapointing folks with the workmanship. His bonnets and tailgates will be able to handle the existing fixings and what have you so no worries there.
Dave.

im interested in a mk2 bonnet, and possibly a tailgate

Might have to put mine on hold...have a gearbox issue...could be nothing (clutch cable snapped but pivot arm has no resistance) or could be pushrod through the drive plate....will know in the next 2 weeks.
Also what finish is the bonnet and do they require paint or do they do the carbon effect?
-
I may be interested in a mk2 bonnet and boot
-
Right i havent asked about mk2 parts but seeing as there seems to be interest i will approach the vendor in the next few days.As with the mk1 parts i,m sure if we could get say 5-8 definites then he would press ahead with it.
Hypermonkey, He can do real carbon with a clear gelcoat but this also comes with the cooesponding price increase.Otherwise his finish is just bare gelcoat [but real goood quality.]
-
Could he do a white gel finish or any colour?
......and what price the carbon?
-
From what i have seen its white or grey gelcoat,He is reluctant to do carbon with clear coat as the gelcoat can sometimes react with sunlight for a bleached look (not good) Also its OMFG expensive.
-
could make a killing on carbon mk2 bonnets if he can do them well (full thing not just a skin) .. they're not easy to get hold of.

Again i,m willing to approach him about any panel but as stated before there needs to be at least 5 defos to make it worthwhile doing the moulds.I,m not well known on this forum so probably not that trusted but if one of you guys want to ask about and get some defo numbers then i'm sure it would be a goer.
Dave.
PS if one of you MK2 guys can measure up or send me a sunroof or template of the hole then i'm sure we could get the sunroof delete panels sorted ASAP for all you mk2 series/trackday addicts.

Hmmm a mk2 carbon bonnet now that would be something, as long as it doesn't bleach in sunlight as said!
Yeah I’d be up for some of that action, was looking for a fibreglass alternative but carbon would rock!
-
I remember asking if any one wanted carbon fibre pannels some time ago with not much success or interest from enough duba's.........i still haven't fit my doors as yet.
