My Golf conked out at some red lights earlier this week and I've been having to do loads of bits to her (brought her at auction and keep find faults).
I've done a full service on her, had a full new exhaust system (stainless) put on and just got a new backbox..
She's been at the garage to sort her starting, turns out it was my alternator, but whilst she was in a few days before sending her to the garage I realised she needed a new cambelt as it was REALLY warn and had splits in it all round : /
I've just got her back and i've had a brand NEW alternator put on and new cambelt and BOY WOW the performance difference.. she shifts like nobodies business now I'm actually still in shock!
I know she doesnt have dump valves or a turbo.. but she actually sounds like she's got a turbo whistle lol! acceleration now is just unreal compared to what it used to be.. feels like a new car - the idles better, she starts first time everytime, the lights respond instantly when i turn on instead of taking a few seconds to come on.. lol
I realise the alternator has made a big difference, but also.. the cambelt i think has as well! - who would have known!
sorry i'm so exstatic, I think i'm actually falling inlove with her all over again!! she hasn't driven like this since well.. never!

Thanks! - good luck with your's guys, One thing I will say is mine ran perfectly for about a month after i brought her from auction then whilst I was accelerating it felt lumpy, and a lack of power..
turns out it was the cambelt slipping - creating a serious dip in power  Sorted with a new cambelt.. boy it shifts!

Nice surprise for you. Bet you're well chuffed.

my cam belt is getting fixed a week tomorrow, but im sure the cambelt it's my problem, as i was a total plonker and did something to the car i maybe shouldn't have

What did you do ?
-
put about a litre too much oil in. i needed some as it was low, not empty, dad knew i needed some, so 2 days later i out a litre in, and it turns out my dad had put some in too, but i idnt check before i put mine in! DUH

oops !
-
don't worry han, i've done that too! lots of cleaning and a new air filter and all was ok.

Actually funny you mention you've done that, last week I went to top my oil up as it was low - turns out the garage had topped it up a few days before without telling me.. and then I didn't do my rocker cover up properly so I had mass oil spill over my engine bay! (creating alot of mess but getting rid of all the extra oil)!
