I've got a problem with my beloved MK1, wen eva i take a long sweeping right hand bend, there is a rubbing sound!! Any ideas? :'(
-
rubbing sound coming from where?
-
sounds like its coming from the front right wheel
-
does it do this on the left side? sounds to me like the inner tire is rubbing.
-
no its just on the right hand side
-
turn the wheel on full lock and have a look around it
-
will do! take it i'm looking for tyre ware!
-
Are you running a large wheel/tyre combo? if so it could be the tyre rubbing the arch as the suspension compresses.
-
Or it could be that your front wheel bearing is on its way out :-\
-
sounds like either wheel bearing or Cv joint.
I would check how much pad thickness you have left as first as you can get a slightly sticking caliper.
If thats ok then jack the car up on the side its rumbling and spin the wheel to listen and check for any tight spots in the bearing. Now hold the wheel at half past twelve and try to rock it. feel for knocking. To confirm it is a bearing also rock it using your hands on the wheel at the quarter past nine position.
If you don't feel any play and its all sweet then start looking at your cv joint.
