I know this is stupid question, and totally subjective, but just canvassing opinion of folks in the know..... what is the best black and what are the differences?
The new guy in the market for a 'black' mk5 :undecided

No black is best, red or white look far better!
If I had to choose I would go for a flat matt black over a metallic!
-
Mine is flat black & when clean there is no better colour imo  However there lies the problem! 2 days later & it needs doing again

I went to buy a red GTi and came away with the mettalic grey, doesnt look as mucky as quick as black, looks mean, better in the metal than on screen + i have leather so goes very well.
Although if there had been a white one I would have been very tempted!
not much help then!

I'd go for metallic black as it has a laquer coating which keeps the paint underneath gleaming for longer and resists swirl marks better.

I'd go for metallic black. Shines up a treat.
-
or blue??????????? or maybe steel grey looks good, easy to look after

You can see your car's skellington....

Thanks for all the advice :undecided: Whats the difference between diamond black and black magic - both metallic?
Thanks again - looking tomorrow night at a couple of imports - £18599 with DSG?

All factory paint on VWs has a lacquer finish.. wether its a metallic or straight colour!
^^ ^^ Black magic has been around for many years now, and getting a bit long in the tooth, Diamond black, could be an update of this colour, but using more uptodate pearl tinters.. possible that black magic is going to be phased out in the near future.. just my guess!

Pearlescent blacks do look really nice when the sun is on them and they're really clean! I would say a black car is one of the nicest when its clean. As djjuk says though - it doesnt stay clean for very long!
Hence why I went for Steel Grey! Still havent seen one in the flash yet... hopefully not too long now though!

My last car was a steel grey GTTDi. It looked great and although I loved the colour, nearly every other golf I passed seemed to be in it. :embarassed:
