just swapped out the fuse box in a mk1 i bought (a very easy 20min job)
for a brand new one. luxury. suddenly all the electrics work!!!!
the fuel pump had been wired to a switch. one wire comes from the ignition somewhere, and one comes from the pic below (the one with the arrow)
now i think this should lead to somewhere on the fuse box. at present it leads to a switch. where should it really go? it's the single side of that 2 into 1 plastic coated junction . . .
the fuel pump relay clicks when i switch the ignition on, so i guess i just gotta get this wire in the right place and it's happy days.

I believe its position 14 on the D black plug mate. Thats where mine is on my caddy, now that its injected

thanks caddyrage i'll check that point and see if there is a wire not connected there
-
check the fusebox faq in the garage section, look under pre-90 mk2 :)
-
mine's a 1980 mk1 gti with the early type fusebox
still confused as to where this wire should lead!!!
i don't want to run this on a switch :(
-
the rear of the early mk1 fusebox is still the same as a pre-90 mk2 I believe :)

Look at the picture, see the whit plug, count three wires in, that burnt looking red/yellowish one, that's your kiddy, the one i've just replaced. You can buy british bike repair connectors to repair the multiplug, they are the only ones that fit, that I have found. You have to squash them a bit though.

You might be able to upgrade to the later fusebox, from what I understand all the plugs on the back are the same? If so you can pick them up from a much wider range of cars, pre-90 MK2s for example so much cheaper!
