Title: for all of those with faded trim problems
Post by: chrutchy on 09 April 2007, 16:39
seen a few posts on here and about this and my golf has been suffeering with faded bumper trim since i bought it. tried loads of stuff to no avail then came across this in performance vw

http://www.swgmotorsport.com/asps/ShowDetails.asp?id=180

is well worth the money and if it lasts aslong as it says it will u will easily manage to do your car for or five times before buying a new bottle

hope this helps some of u out like it has me

shoe polish is the daddy... cheap at 85p per bottle (morrisons own) and lasts for a good month. one bottle will do about 3 or 4 cars worth (thats including front/rear bumpers, side skirts, arches, front grill etc.)

i've been using kiwi now for a couple of months, lasts for ages and you can re-bling by a quick once over with any silicon based spray polish.

ah now you see i wouldn't remove the arches as i think that mk2's really benefit from the extra width, and wide metal arches = big $$$$. Would lose the rubbing strips though as they just seem to harbour plenty of water which seems to dump itself half way through a good waxing.

All my cars came out ace with it, can only buy it on a trade account, so pester your local garage to order you some in.

This is also good stuff

Proper rattle can spray dye, I've seen the results on vwvortex somewhere and they looked brand new even after almost a year. Will be using it on my car very shortly.

That liqitec stuff is utter sh!te!!!

I washed the car, followed all the instruction, and to get it on properly is a 'mare, but I took 2 1/2 hours to do it and it looked quite good....not as good as back to black spray, but good.

Left it for 2 weeks to make sure it was 'cured' well and washed the car. As soon as the hose hit it it pealed like a long strip of sunburnt skin and left patches all ove rthe bumpers. I had to go to a pressure washer and jet all of the remaining bits off...took forever!

Kiwi polish all the way now....don't buy the liquitec as it's a total waste of money imo

I'd been meaning to 'kiwi' my car for some time and on the weekend I finally did it. I have to say it made a really big difference and the results were excellent. For anyone who wants to restore their black-now-grey-trim to its original shine then this works a treat!

Here's what I used and here are the effects. It still needs a few more coats ( I applied 3) and there was a day between photographs so it got a little dirty but it looks miles better I think

The stuff with the foam applicator is not the same. It's liquid and doesn't last as long because you can't really rub it in properly.

mine has lasted 9 months without fading much at all, and went on extremely evenly...

No, it's wax based so far better. I think you'd be pushed to get leather polish to rub into plastic!!

The liquid stuff is the best, you get a flat, long lasting finish unlike the pics on the previous page using the little tins.

Agreed, the stuff with the foam applicator is best, used it on my 16v about 6-7 months ago and although ive now sold it i still see it regularly as my brother inlaw purchased it and its only now starting to fade.

kiwi liquid shoe polish with foam applicator followed by a buffing off to 'matt' - did this about 8 months ago

keep it topped up by using megs trim detailer about once a month - it's not 'silicony' and won't bugg3r your soap suds like that autoglym bumper snot does - takes under 5 minutes to do this http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=6&products_id=41&osCsid=kvdfj241icfc9u5o2p2q92fma7 (http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=6&products_id=41&osCsid=kvdfj241icfc9u5o2p2q92fma7)

thinking of trying this... apparently it really is all it says it does and then some

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=403&osCsid=kvdfj241icfc9u5o2p2q92fma7 (http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=403&osCsid=kvdfj241icfc9u5o2p2q92fma7)

has anyone tried it?
