I should probablt know this, but I wanted to top up the oil in my Mk5 GTI and wondered which brand and type I should use? :undecided:
-
best bet is to go to stealers and buy a bottle, 1 litre costs about £12 (longlife), or as long as the oil has an Vw approved label on then halfrauds may have it on the shelf ( only as a last resort!)

Castrol Edge is the stuff (new name for Castrol SLX). You can get it in Halfords, just check the VW code on the back, think it is 504.00 but check the manual!
-
cheers guys.

Yes and No. It's nice until you see the price! About £14 a litre from memory in Halfords...

I managed to get along to Halfrauds today, as I'm avoiding VW after the hassle I had recently
I was looking for Castrol Edge oil and I just wanted to let you all know they also sell Castrol Edge Sport, which isnt 504 00, as recommended for the GTI. I managed to find Castrol Edge which is 504 00 and the correct oil.
The packaging is almost identical, so beware! :nerd:

Bought a litre of oil for my ED30 yesterday from my VW dealership and it was under £8.
My car is on 10,000miles fixed servicing regime.
-
Went to the stealers the other day and they were charging £15.99 for 1L of longlife oil.
-
OOOH
Mind you my diesel oil on long life regime was about that
-
Cant get over the difference in cost between normal oil and longlife in cost!
-
You can get 504.00 for under a £10 a litre - you just need the correct contacts

Do you have to buy it by the tanker?
