Title: Annoying iPOD prep
Post by: Hurdy on 06 April 2007, 21:54
Is it just me or has VW sold us short on the iPOD prep?

My major niggles are:-

1. I can't choose my music by album - only by Playlist
2. The system will only let me choose from 5 playlists
3. Everytime I turn the car off it reverts to "the long playlist" on CD6 so when I re-select my playlist it goes back to track 1 and I have to finger through the tracks till I get back to the one I want (not good if I am on track 50 something)
4. The display on the car only shows up to track 99 and then reverts back to number 1 even though I am actually playing track 100.
5. I can't choose anything like genre's or artist.

Does anyone else find this infuriating

yep its crap, but then it is tricking it into being a CD auto changer and so theres not a lot more that can do.  oh well, maybe they will pull their finger out and make a proper one for the mk 6.

I agree with all of the above and all you points made are true! Just nice to know mine isn't the only one like it!

It does show that it is on CD6 after you turn the car off, but it is still playing the playlist you were on before your turned the car off.  It caught me out a few times before I figured out what was happening.

If you want to listen to music which isn't on one of the first five playlists, you can disconnect the iPod, select the music you are after, and when you connect it back up it will show as CD6 but be playing the music you selected on the iPod.

Even more infuriating, the managed to program it so it will put a VW symbol on the ipod display, but they can't read the track names off of it?  Are you kidding me.

I still like it becuase I can use my ipod, but I agree its a big disappointment.

Utterly crap

I had an Alpine unit in my last car that was just like using the ipod - Album / Artist etc whereas this is rubbish, especially as I can't be arsed setting up playlists the whole time!

had a dension ice link plus for my 3 series and it was ace, got the ipod adapter for the GTI as I  got used to the ipod, have to agree not a patch on the ice link, select by album, playlist, artist, browse ipod all had ID3 text scrolling across display.
Having said that the GTI is 10x better than my 320d so ho hum!

I agree, I just wish VW would do the little things better as it makes all the difference.

I really don't like the way you can't get track names!

What about a record player, sorry, Gramophone? Although it might take up a bit of room in your boot TT.
